A few weeks ago I was invited to participate in a webinar with Sarah Jenner and Mindful Employer to talk about building and engaging effectives teams. As our conversation went on, we touched on how to support team members who are navigating health care systems as patients and caregivers. A key element of this includes ensuring that team members feel seen and heard as well as set up for success in their roles. This weekend wasn’t just about unwinding, it was an eye-opener on the future of work and the undeniable importance of employee well-being. Here are a few Key takeaways from “Employee Well-being: From the Lens of HR & CEO” Victor C. - Brought the startling statistic of 60% burnout to the forefront. His candid discussion on the absence of wellness officers in firms and the stark disparity between paternity and maternity leave policies left many of us rethinking our approach to workplace diversity and support. John Mark - Delivered a simple yet profound message: “Love your people as you love yourself.” He reminded us that even with a wellness officer, it’s the human touch and genuine care within teams that truly makes a difference. Deepti - Shifted the narrative by focusing on the need to view our colleagues as humans first, not competitors. Her call to balance empathy with ambition resonated deeply. The CEO panel capped the day with powerful insights into the long-term benefits of prioritizing employee health. Their collective wisdom made it clear: investing in well-being isn’t just good practice, it’s a business imperative. In today’s fast-paced world, companies that champion employee well-being will not only thrive but also lead the way forward. This event reinforced that the future of work places well-being at the center and I’m excited to see how these insights will shape our workplaces. And a special shoutout to the event’s fun start with a Bingo networking session with fellow HRs & leaders! It was a blast connecting with folks, getting cards signed and ending up winning a membership to the 1% Club. Kudos to the organizers for making networking so engaging!

Smartphone Addiction... At our wellbeing session yesterday we talked about mobile phones and how important it is to ensure you have healthy boundaries in place. The average person spends 4.5 hours/day on their phone. They are incredibly useful but also create a powerful draw that is hard to resist and since most of us depend on our phone for various tasks, it is easy to ignore the red flags of mobile addiction. Some red flags that could indicate a problem: Have you found yourself feeling anxious if the phone is not around? Do you feel the need to have your phone with you constantly? Are long conversations made via text instead of face-to-face? Do you favour time spent with your phone over time with friends/family? Do you have trouble focusing on tasks due to an urge to check your phone? Is sleep disrupted due to phone usage late at night? Has there been a decrease in motivation, productivity, and creativity? Strategies to combat smartphone addiction Be honest with yourself and challenge smart phone use. Set timers on certain apps and stick to it. Put your phone in another room or turn it off when you need to focus. Only allow calls/messages to be notified from certain numbers. Turn off all other unnecessary notifications. Unsubscribe from social media accounts that don’t bring value to your life. Plan and take regular breaks away from your phone. Instead of winding down with your phone, find alternatives such as talking to friends/family, playing games, watching a film without your phone next to you, exercise/stretching, drawing/colouring, reading, going for a walk…
