Could you spare $20 to donate to a great cause? In September, I will be trekking the Santiago de Compostela to raise funds to build a Youth Foyer in Dubbo, which will serve regional NSW. The Youth Foyer will provide 40 units for young people between the ages of 16 to 24. Foyers offer critical, point-in-time services that enable young people in transition to develop and achieve educational and employment pathways, helping them to exit the cycle of welfare and service dependence sustainably. While there are programs in both the education and homelessness sectors across Australia that support young people experiencing disadvantage, fully integrated service models focused on education and employment outcomes are scarce. Foyers aim to: - Reduce the number of young people cycling through the housing and homelessness system. - Increase the number of young people completing educational qualifications. - Increase the number of young people productively employed.
