Learning from the Past: My Journey to a Better Plant Operations Career When I started my career as a plant operator almost three decades ago, I, like many young professionals, believed I knew it all. During my plant rounds, I would sometimes cut corners when taking equipment readings, thinking I was being more efficient than my seasoned colleagues. I knew my equipment like the back of my hand, and fortunately, my shortcuts never led to any issues. However, looking back, I recognized that my approach was flawed and could have had severe consequences. As young professionals, it's easy to think we have all the answers. But such overconfidence can jeopardize plant operations and hinder our growth. In my case, and luckily for me, I realized the need to change my ways early on and took my responsibilities seriously. Embracing my role as a Plant Operator properly not only made me better at my job but also earned the recognition of my supervisors, opening doors for career advancement. The consequences of not taking our responsibilities seriously can be significant. From operational inefficiencies to potential safety hazards, the risks are too high to justify taking shortcuts. This isn't just about my experience—it's about the broader lesson for all of us in the industry. Therefore, I urge all professionals, especially those starting out, to learn from my experience. Let's always strive to do the right thing, even when it feels like we know better. Please share your own stories of growth and development—your experiences might just inspire someone else to embrace a safer, more responsible approach to their work. #ProfessionalGrowth #PlantOperations #DoTheRightThing #LearningAndDevelopment #OperationsManagement #Career #CareerGrowth #LNG #LNGIndustry #OilandGas #EnergySector #Refining #PlantOperator #Commissioning #Startup #Operations

Let me share my experience as well.I started my oil&gas journey as a field operator it wasn’t too big unit but because I was “too smart guy” I had two round ways: a long way so I could observe every part of the unit and a short one. While I was following along the second one some pipe racks were out of control.Once when the ambient was changeable we got a really big leak. And of course its happened while I was following my shortcut (Murphy’s law? Don’t think so). Just 15 minutes were enough so about 11 cubic meters of tempered glycol pumped out of the system.

Great post Giorgio Pasqualin I feel I’m still learning every day, and the journey has been one that has taken many twists and turns. As long as I’m growing, I’m happy, as whilst the industry changes, so do I.
