While many are lulled into amazingly hyper-technocratic dreams of AI LLMs and other investments in top-down command and control systems... there are wiser efforts like People Powered steadily working away to spread participatory and often place-led innovation from the Global South. What would civic technologies look like if they were made with a focus on: groups not individuals, participation instead of consumption, and organized publics instead of being experimental data subjects for power-hoarding technocrats? Let's find out together. If you're excited by these notions consider joining us.
📢 Are you working on participation, democracy, or civic engagement? Do you want to be part of a fun action-oriented global community, to help you have a greater impact? Do you like to receive grants and contracts that pay you for your amazing work? If so, you should apply for People Powered membership! If you're still not sure, read these 5 reasons for joining. Or ask me about it! And if you're already a beautiful rockstar member, please share this with other organizations, civil servants, advocates, practitioners, and researchers working on participatory democracy.

"BE NICE SO THEY LISTEN." “DON'T BE NICE; THEY DON'T DESERVE IT." "POST NOW!" "WHY ARE YOU POSTING? YOUR POSTING DOESN'T MATTER." Does anyone else feel like these are the messages you are getting here? Can we all agree that what works for one person—in terms of how they show up, then fight for and ignite change—may not be the best and most strategic representation on another person? YES, there are fundamental things that serve as a basis for change and advocacy work— Speaking truth to power is one of them. Let us also make space for the different ways this can sound, as well as when and where it might take place. When we have such a narrow view of this, we perpetuate the idea that only a select few know the "right way" to promote equity and change. Please, friend, do it your way. The most important thing is that you are doing something. Self-advocacy is a powerful tool, but for many of us, it can be a challenge to put it into practice. LEAAP@Liberty’s West Region Development Committee tackles this issue in their new panel discussion series: Showing up Effectively. During the first discussion, speakers highlighted their career journeys, the professional challenges they’ve overcome—and how they promoted their accomplishments in a meaningful and effective way. LEAAP@Liberty empowers professionals of Asian descent and their allies. Learn more about LEAAP and our other ERGs here: https://bit.ly/4d3rWf9 #SelfAdvocacy #LifeAtLiberty

The theme for World Day of Social Justice is "Bridging Gaps, Building Alliances" and we have seen first-hand the importance of creating equitable access to opportunities for those who face barriers to accessing employment in Ireland. Working collaboratively to increase options and improve the level of inclusion in workplaces creates a positive benefit not just for the individuals involved, but also for their families and the community as a whole. #WorldDayOfSocialJustice https://lnkd.in/dzeNrTGc Employers for Change Towards Work Pathways to Progress

🎙𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀🎙 As an 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙩 𝙋𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙖𝙘𝙝, I cannot stress enough the importance of effective communication when advocating for social causes. Public Speaking is a powerful tool that can raise awareness, inspire action, and drive positive change. #SocialAdvocacy #PublicSpeaking #EffectiveCommunication When it comes to social advocacy, your words have the potential to challenge societal norms, shape public opinion, and influence policy decisions. A well-crafted speech can not only educate and inform but also evoke emotions and catalyze collective action. Take, for instance, the influential speeches of civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malala Yousafzai. Their words resonated deeply, transcending borders and inspiring millions to join the fight for equality and education. #CivilRights #Education #EqualRights Effective public speaking for social advocacy requires a combination of preparation, passion, and authenticity. Research your topic thoroughly, gather compelling statistics and anecdotes, and craft a narrative that resonates with your audience. #Preparation #Storytelling #CompellingNarrative Remember, your delivery is as crucial as your content. Speak with confidence, maintain eye contact, and use gestures and vocal variety to captivate your listeners. Most importantly, let your genuine passion for the cause shine through, as it is this emotional connection that can truly inspire change. Whether addressing a small community gathering or a large-scale event, your words have the power to challenge the status quo, raise awareness, and ignite a movement. Embrace the responsibility that comes with public speaking for social advocacy, and use your voice to create a better, more just world for all. #SocialJustice #Responsibility #PositiveChange #PublicSpeakingTips #AdvocacySpeaking #RaiseAwareness #InspireAction #EffectiveDelivery Follow SOHAIL AHMED - The SELF ESTEEM Expert for More Amazingly Powerful Content on #PublicSpeaking and Don't Forget to Hit the Bell 🛎 Icon.
