Social connections are one of 6 key areas that impact not only how long we live, but how long we live well! When we are in a transition phase of life it is common to struggle with disconnecting from a social network that is ending or changing, and starting to develop a new one. Yet, research backs the importance of connection - genuine, meaningful, connections. What's your favorite way to expand your social network?

While many are lulled into amazingly hyper-technocratic dreams of AI LLMs and other investments in top-down command and control systems... there are wiser efforts like People Powered steadily working away to spread participatory and often place-led innovation from the Global South. What would civic technologies look like if they were made with a focus on: groups not individuals, participation instead of consumption, and organized publics instead of being experimental data subjects for power-hoarding technocrats? Can we all agree that what works for one person—in terms of how they show up, then fight for and ignite change—may not be the best and most strategic representation on another person? YES, there are fundamental things that serve as a basis for change and advocacy work— Speaking truth to power is one of them. Let us also make space for the different ways this can sound, as well as when and where it might take place. When we have such a narrow view of this, we perpetuate the idea that only a select few know the "right way" to promote equity and change. Please, friend, do it your way. The most important thing is that you are doing something.
