White women of the United States: we must unite with women of the Global Majority to stop policies that are turning the United States into hell for all women. On Monday, judges ruled that the Fearless Fund, a venture capital fund's grant program for Black women-owned businesses, who receive .34 % of venture capital, illegally discriminates against non-Black women-owned businesses. The plaintiffs: three anonymous non-Black women. Today Senate Republicans voted against legislation that would have protected access to birth control nationwide. Over the last several years, men's rights activists have filed Federal Title IX complaints against universities alleging that efforts to support women students are no longer necessary and amount to discrimination against male students. They are suing to force summer enrichment programs introducing middle school girls to careers in technology to admit boys. If women were united across difference, we would have the power to prevent this. Women of all ethnicities are invited to heal our racial divides at the Interracial Sisterhood Retreat, in San Francisco at the beautiful Hotel Kabuki July 18-20, 2024. The Interracial Sisterhood Retreat is co-facilitated by author and creator of Brave Sis Project Rozella (Rozie) Kennedy and antiracism educator Karen Fleshman, Esq., founder of Racy Conversations. The Interracial Sisterhood Retreat is a safe, generative space for women to listen to each other's stories and truths, get to know each other, change our beliefs about ourselves and each other, change how we interact with each other, and imagine together the society we want for ourselves and future generations. Together we will build Beloved Community among women, drawing on our differences as strengths. Helping Businesses and Individuals Navigate Complex Business and Employment Disputes | Guiding Shareholders Through Business Breakups | Providing Fractional Employment Counsel Advisory Services
To cap-off a Minnesota Women Lawyers-heavy week, I want to publicly disseminate an idea for a new affinity group within MWL: The Rainmakers Affinity Group. During the last week, MWL materials and events have discussed "parity." When speakers are talking about parity, they are often talking about the number of men versus the number of women in law school, in private practice, in leadership, etc. While these statistics are important and should be tracked, what these statistics ignore is who in our industry holds and controls the wealth. To ultimately achieve equity, women in private practice need to become rainmakers. That's why I want to create a group where women can join once per month to create community, hold each other accountable, and build strategies for achieving their business development goals. If you are interested, or have ideas, please reach out!

As I ease back into sharing here, I continue to think about the power of #connection and #community and how important it is to take a moment to celebrate each other's achievements. So many of our battles as women and women leaders feel hard won and it becomes important and empowering to find moments to celebrate our wins. Something I’m very proud and excited about is that Shirley McAlpine & Associates has been selected as a semi-finalist for the 2024 Job Creators Quest grant! This grant is an initiative to launch Founders First CDC Community Development Corporation’s support for small businesses from diverse backgrounds to scale and impact the ecosystem. (https://lnkd.in/gxPE_nUX) I’m so grateful to my team, George Hurvitt, MBA, Seema N. Patel, and Joyce Ferris for helping me express and represent the powerful work we do and we’re crossing our fingers about what comes next. I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT SOMETHING YOU'RE PROUD OF ACCOMPLISHING RECENTLY IN THE COMMENTS. Please share! #Celebration #Community #Support #jobcreation #communitydevelopment #smallbusiness #womensempowerment #womeninbusiness #womenfounders
