Have you thought about what drives employees at Douglas College? Hear from one of our current employees, Kate Tran, who works as a Student Support Navigator in the Student Affairs & Services department discussing why she loves working with students! • Why I LOVE what I DO: I get to work directly with students and build relationships. A majority of my case management of students are youth in/from care, so I am grateful to be in a position where I can actively help navigate barriers that they have been up against their whole lives. • Favourite Thing About My Job: Getting to hear the student wins. When they call me or stop by my office to share a positive experience is always gratifying. Hearing about a good grade on an exam, a successful grant appeal, having found secure housing, a job etc. So often I’m putting out fires for students that when we come across a success, so I’m riding that wave for as long as I can! • Did You Know? a) I’m a bit shy right off the bat, but very warm and excitable once we get the handshake and name introductions out of the way. b) You will always find miscellaneous post-its and my daily emotional-support Tim Horton’s steeped tea on my desk. c) Sometimes I prefer working in dim lighting and some wonder why I look like Gollum in a dark cave.
