Humanizing wealth management in pursuit of shared prosperity
Got to spend some of my morning with Andrea Longton, CFA and Janine Firpo talking about how women can step into their power as values-aligned investors.
I highly recommend both of these books for anyone, particularly women, who aren't sure where to start, but know they want to align their money with the changes they want to see in the world.
It's a tough time to be an impact investor, and tapping into community is so critical to strengthen our mutual resolve and conviction. Grateful for the women in this space who continue to educate and refuse to back down.
Founder and Chief Visionary at Wonder Women Tech, 2024-2025 Obama Foundation USA Leader, Keynote Speaker, Duke Corporate Educator, hackathon and programs designer, and passionate about humanity and global impact.
I have had the honor of speaking at the Mount Saint Mary's University The Report on the Status of Women and Girls in California event with Geena Davis and many other iconic women creating an impact. The work that MSMU does in creating impact for women's inclusion is truly inspiring.
This year's theme: The Cost of Being A Woman: Solutions for Economic Equity examined the barriers to financial well-being and highlighted the opportunities for lasting chance to create a more equitable and vibrant future for all.
As I navigate the very real and unique challenges I have faced as a woman of color, a tech and non-profit founder, and a small business owner, I feel like these conversations are vital to what lies ahead for women like me to be fully funded and fully supported. It is heartbreaking at times to stand deep inside the wage and wealth gap and to give up so much of the comforts of a sustainable livelihood simply because I dare to dream and build as a woman.
As I reference later in this video: "Just keep going!" I have to remind myself of that every. single. day.
#INSPIREINCLUSION
It is my ethos. It is my purpose. It is my mission. Not just during #WHM in March, but 365 - 366 days a year.
As we wrap up a month of celebrating women think about the women who are bootstrapping, scraping by, the founders and dreamers who keep going, who may be silently unable to pay their rent or bills, who are underfunded, underrepresented, undersupported, unseen, and who may not know what else to do or where to go, the barriers are too much.
The cost of being a woman is a cost most women cannot afford.

Articles like this point out how far we have to go to close gaps caused by historical injustice- and features 3 inspiring women working diligently for that cause:
International Women's Day theme this year is "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress". There are many that are already doing this and we need more of us. Karen Spencer is one of the examples of doing this work, among others.
And in regards to Venture investors, decision-makers are still disproportionately male. At firms with more than $50 million in assets under management, PitchBook states 17.4% of decision-makers are women, while 82.6% of decision-makers are men. At firms under $50 million in AUM, the percentage of female decision-makers is 18.8%.
In regards to private equity firms, McKinsey's research shows women make up only 12% of managing directors and 16% of principals and partners in investment roles. We do have a ways to go yet so let's "accelerate the progress" further and together.

The Advancement of Women and Girls: A Stark Reality Check
Amidst the buzz about women and girls progress, a crucial reality is being overlooked. The majority of progress was made between the 1960s and 2000. Since then, advancement has come to a standstill. The share of women in the labor force surged throughout the latter half of the 20th century, only to flatline in the new millennium. It's imperative that we confront this harsh truth and take bold steps to reignite progress for women and girls.
Since 80% of single parents are mothers, raising the vast majority of our children, the stakes couldn't be higher. We must ensure these women are empowered, educated, and earning a living to support their families. This is not just about fairness—it's about securing a brighter future for the next generation. Please support economically empowering programming for women and girls through the Women's Foundation of Boston.
Empowering Women in Business through The Empower Women Fund.
In a world where women are breaking barriers and shattering glass ceilings, there's a powerful force driving change: The Empower Women Fund.
We're investing in the future by supporting the continued growth of women-led businesses and empowering the next generation of female entrepreneurs.
Our mission is simple yet revolutionary: To make it possible for every woman, regardless of her age, income, or zip code, to become an investor in other women.
While California offers a pro-business climate, many women-owned businesses still face challenges in securing funding for growth and expansion.
That's where we come in. Through grants and continued education, the Empower Women Fund provides female founders nationwide with the support and financial advocacy they need to thrive.
Our fund is fueled by the community, our members, and our core values: "Invest In Her" and "For Us, By Us."
We believe in the power of women supporting women. That's why we encourage every woman to invest in the growth and success of female entrepreneurs, no matter how big or small the contribution.
Together, we're creating a network of support that spans across the nation, empowering current and aspiring female business leaders.
