What can you be doing to support and develop female leaders in your own organizations? A recent American Psychology Association article noted that Industrial/organizational (I/O) psychologists offer a host of evidence-based strategies for helping close the gender gap, including identifying leadership potential early in a woman’s career, skills and leadership training for women, allyship by men, and mentorship and sponsorship programs, among others. But when I turned to top local leaders for advice, Anna Nalean, Community Impact Coordinator, Delta Dental of Iowa, simply said, "Be intentional." Nalean offered: "Businesses have to be intentional about acknowledging and then growing the many talented female leaders that surround them. So many times I’ve seen organizations lose out on incredibly talented leaders, simply by not seeing her (she is often not the loudest voice in the room!) or seeing the potential she brings. Recognizing that leader, telling her you see her potential, and then being willing to invest in that potential through development opportunities." "Unveiling the Power of leadership in Motherhood: A Personal Reflection on Leadership"This past weekend and opportunity to speak at differen mothers day event  .Today was reflecting on time in  2022  running  a leadership workshop for women, I posed a simple yet profound question: "Can everyone who is a leader stand up?" Only a handful rose. Then came the pivotal moment when I asked, "Can every mother stand up?" The room filled with standing figures, each representing a beacon of leadership in their own right.Reflecting on this, I recalled the timeless wisdom of my mentor, John Maxwell, who taught me that "everything rises and falls on leadership." His straightforward definition resonated deeply: leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less.In that moment, it struck me that many mothers may not fully grasp the extent of their influence. As the primary leaders of humanity, their impact extends far beyond the confines of their homes. It's time for mothers everywhere to recognize their inherent leadership roles and embrace the profound influence they wield. #Motherhood #Leadership #Influence

I found myself longing for (and finding) a Black woman mentor during the toughest moments of my financial services career. Despite being an eager learner who absorbs insights from diverse sources, I lacked a peer who truly understood the intricacies of navigating leadership as a Black woman. It's crucial to acknowledge that traditional women leadership programs often fell short in addressing my specific challenges. Let's prioritize tailored development opportunities that resonate with the diverse experiences of all women in leadership. What advice would you give your younger self? I had the privilege of speaking with 7 incredible young women who are upcoming seniors as part of the Youth Leadership Callaway program, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and led by the wonderful Brianna Kliethermes. 🌟 During our session, we delved into the definitions of leadership, explored the values that shape true leaders, and discussed the role of confidence—how it impacts us and how we can cultivate it. We also talked about what it means to create the life you want, a message that resonated deeply with these bright young women. They all promised me that when they get their first jobs post-education/training, they will negotiate their salaries, as we discussed the research that shows that men are 4X more likely to negotiate their salaries than women. These young women are already making a mark in their community, and I couldn’t be more impressed by their wisdom, poise, and commitment to leadership. They are true role models, not only for their peers but also for my two younger daughters. I’m excited to see where their journeys take them and confident they will continue to inspire and lead with confidence. If I could give advice to my younger self, I’d say: Trust in your abilities and don’t be afraid to take up space. Your voice and your vision matter. The path won’t always be clear, but that’s part of the journey—embrace it with confidence and know that you have the power to create the life you envision.
