My commitment to developing and empowering women of colour and black women on their leadership journey represents only one half of the equation. Without significant changes in the corporate environments where they operate, their experiences will remain static, and progress will stall. This is why my partnership with allies is so crucial. At Lumen Consulting Group Inc., we understand that true allyship extends beyond good intentions—it demands impactful actions which are meaningful and sustainable. Our collaboration with allies targets those who are prepared to leverage their influence, resources, and positions to make a substantial difference. Through a journey of introspection, leadership development, and strategic systemic intervention, we guide these leaders to transform their perspectives and approaches, fostering truly inclusive and equitable workplaces. It's not about assigning blame—it's about building trust, broadening viewpoints, and identifying paths to enact sustainable change. Join us as we support each other in the collective mission to transform leadership and build truly equitable and inclusive organizations. #allyship #womenofcolor #brilliantcolours #dei #diversityequityinclusion #leadershipcoaching

I've been thinking a lot about the underrepresentation of women of color in leadership roles. Despite being told I have "great leadership potential," I, like many others, have been given more responsibilities without the corresponding title. Meanwhile, I've seen men get promoted after only six months with an organization. This is a problem that needs to be addressed. But how do we bridge this gap? It's no wonder that many women leave their corporate jobs to start their own companies. Let's start a conversation about how we can support women of color in their leadership journeys. #WomenInLeadership #DiversityAndInclusion

Mentorship isn’t just about giving advice; it’s about lifting others as we climb. For Black women in leadership, mentorship creates powerful networks of support and solidarity. It’s a way to navigate challenges while also opening doors for the next generation of leaders. By fostering these connections, we build a future where women in leadership can thrive, lead with authenticity, and make a lasting impact. #WomenInLeadership #Mentorship #LeadershipDevelopment

The quest to open the channels and get more women into leadership is not as straight forward as we may have once thought, and it’s good to see a range of opinions out there on how we move forward. I like these perspectives, but think a little nuance is important here. Leadership training program success is dependent on understanding what the issues are for that specific organization and the people within it. For example, in a highly male-dominated organization where it’s not crystal clear why the women specifically aren’t in positions of leadership, those women-only spaces can be a safe ground for understanding obstacles that aren’t evident or brought forth for many reasons (fear, cultural norms etc.). There is also room to address the more personal internal barriers which may not feel safe to share in a blended environment- it still remains true that a women’s experience in life and work can be vastly different than that or a man’s, and that’s important to understand and work with too. I’ve seen this with my work with European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) where we created a women-only space with physicists to build self-awareness and skills to move these wonderful ladies into the leadership positions they deserve. I believe that in most situations there is space for women-only approaches to compliment greater DEB and leadership development programming, and if we’re really curious about where the obstacles to success are- they’re a must. (And for what it’s worth, I would make the same argument for any minority group which is historically not represented in leadership positions ;) ) - #DEI #DEB #belonging #equity #women #womeninleadership #leadershipdevelopment #genderequality #leadershipcoach #leadershiptraining
Women leadership development programs, talent accelerators, equity programs, or any other one-sided initiatives trying to fix/adjust women are (a) misdirected, and (b) not enough to change the narrative. It is high time to redesign organizational structures and change workplaces biased against women. Silja Baller Michelle Penelope King (PhD) Joy Burnford Dr Darja Kragt #womenleaders #dontfixwomen
