A corporate event planner and friend who is currently looking for a new role, reached out to me asking if I knew anyone who is hiring. Unfortunately, I didn't. However, I remembered a saying that Thomas Sowinski, a previous of client said during one of our calls. He said, "any industry can be a tech industry." Hearing him say that made me think differently. It made me expand my thinking. Even though so many people want to get into Tech, technology permeates practically any industry. One who was working in tech can apply their same tech skills in an entirely different industry - one that isn't traditionally "tech." I applied the same type of thinking in my response to my friend. Although my friend is an event planner and has been doing that work for large corporations/tech companies, I wanted her to think broader. I encouraged her to think of other industries that put on events (wedding industry, convention centers, etc) - and then think where or who do I know that does this type of thing? Sometimes, we are so familiar with one way or area, that we forget to realize there are other options. For those in the current #jobsearch, what would it look like if you expand your thinking, thus allowing you to cast a wider net that still aligns and needs your skill set?
