This happened recently, illustrating the severe disconnect between how technology ought to be used and the remit it is granted still exists. In a case like this the CTO has the challenging task of changing the mindset of the senior leadership to see technology as a profit centre. How can this be achieved? My approach is: 1️⃣ Focusing on value creation: Demonstrating how technology can be used to improve efficiency, reduce cognitive load, and support innovation and experimentation, rather than just cost-cutting. 2️⃣ Emphasising metrics and data: Highlighting where technology moves the needle for the business. 3️⃣ Over-communicating a technology-positive outlook: It’s not enough to deliver an important message once - you have to say it at least eight times for it to take hold! How do you bridge this gap in your organisation?

🚀 Why Digital Transformation is More Challenging Than We Think 🚀 Transforming a business digitally (Horizon 2) can be incredibly challenging, often more so than anticipated. The biggest trap? Treating a digital transformations like a Horizon 1 improvement. This is where most organizations fail. Here’s what we learned from our research: 🔹 Systemic Impact: Changes in one domain of a business model (e.g. the distribution channel as depicted in picture attached) affect most often numerous other aspects of your business model (!). 🔹 To succeed, you have to therefore take the intended transformation outside of the building, and work on it, till you have a harmoniously working business model. 🔹 A transformation requires an MVP, similar to an innovation: Successful transformation requires testing and tweaking across the entire business model. The best way to do this, is typically building an MVP and verifying (where possible) in real life. 🔹 Avoiding Pitfalls: Implementing systemic changes without understanding their full implications can disturb your core business operations.
