Joining LiveIn as a research intern, I was comfortable analyzing numbers and trends behind the scenes. However, fate had other plans for me. One day, my manager approached me with an unexpected opportunity: to transition into the role of a Demand Executive. My initial reaction? Fear. Sales had always been my Achilles’ heel - I associated it with rejection, uncertainty, and high-pressure interactions. But deep down, I knew this was my chance to grow. 😰 Facing the Unknown:  I dove headfirst into my new role. The first few weeks were challenging. Rejections from potential clients hit hard. I stumbled over my words, struggling to understand their needs. It felt like I was navigating a maze without a map. Doubt crept in, and I questioned my decision to step out of my comfort zone. 🤝 A Supportive Network:  Thankfully, LiveIn’s commitment to employee growth wasn’t just something written on paper. My manager provided unwavering support, encouraging me to learn, adapt, and persevere. His belief in my potential fueled my determination. 📝 Learning the Art of Sales:  Then I immersed myself in understanding our products, customer pain points, and unique selling propositions (USPs). I also tried to captivate new knowledge in Sales as well as tried to talk more with the customers. Gradually, I decoded the psychology of sales—the delicate balance between empathy and persuasion. I learned to listen actively, uncover hidden needs, and tailor solutions to each client. 🤩 Turning Rejections into Opportunities:  With newfound knowledge, I faced rejection differently. Instead of feeling defeated, I saw it as an opportunity to refine my approach. I tweaked my pitch, asked better questions, and genuinely connected with clients. Slowly but surely, the tide turned. Deals materialized, propelling my confidence to new heights. 🔥 The Transformation:  In retrospect, that pivotal moment - when I said yes to Sales - was a turning point. It taught me resilience, adaptability, and the power of mentorship. Corina plays basketball here at Kentucky Wesleyan College and is currently interning for Doug Hoyt ’84 and his team at Wendell Foster, Inc. Q: What’s your major? What do you hope to do with it? A: I am a double major in Business Marketing & Communication Arts. I am not 100% sure what my route with be after school, but I hope to get involved as a Marketing Specialist/Community Engagement Specialist for a business or nonprofit that I am really passionate about! The possibilities are wide open and I'm excited to see where the Lord leads me! Q: How did you get connected to WF? A: Before the semester began, I knew I needed internship hours and experience and I wanted to find something that could potentially be a career for me one day. As I was researching, I discovered Wendell Foster and loved what they were doing and reached out directly to see if there were internship opportunities available! Q: What kind of responsibilities do you have/projects are you working on there? A: I have assisted with many of the fundraisers Wendell Foster, including their recent Gala & Auction by organizing materials, punching information into the system and making sure things were in order! I also create social media posts, take pictures and create content at events, assist in writing newsletters, all while learning how a nonprofit runs and operates! In the future I am excited to learn and observe the grant writing process as well! Q: What’s been your favorite part of your internship so far? A: My favorite part of my internship so far has been the people I work with! I've loved connecting and learning from the people around me who are passionate and work so hard for a great organization! I've learned so much in my short few months, and watched the impact their work has on so many individuals. Gen-Z folks are so sorted out. This is my personal opinion, but my experience with Gen-Z has always been positive. I am Gen-Z myself, but this is an unbiased view. Take my (hypothetical) adopted kid Annie, for example. She’s done over 10 internships in the last three years. What’s impressive is that she just completed her first year at Miranda House. She started interning back in 10th grade with one of my projects. When I was running the social project IST in 2021, all 30 volunteers were either in high school or first year students in college. These kids knew what they wanted. They were involved in various projects, gaining skills, collecting certificates, and getting letters of recommendation. Some wanted to learn social skills or work on themselves. Each one had a solid reason. All the young kids I know have interned somewhere and contributed significantly to the organizations they worked with. I’ve seen other generations talk about not knowing what they wanted to study or do until later in life. While many have strong opinions about this new generation, we must give credit where it’s due. #genz #students #internship #people #linkedin #work
