In my academic research, I’ve explored the positive effects of cross-sector collaboration within public health and human services strategic planning – as an area of personal interest and commitment. A new report from ASTHO highlights the value of working across sectors to address public health challenges in rural areas. The report outlines how cooperation between government agencies, businesses, community organizations, and academic institutions better influence the interconnected social, economic, and environmental factors leading to health. Climate-related disparities impact the health of some of the most vulnerable among us. In a recent Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention researchers found that unprecedented heat waves can affect all people, but some are more sensitive to the effects of heat, including children and adults with underlying health conditions, pregnant women, and outdoor workers. The Alliance for Community Engagement – Climate and Health (ACE-CH) promotes sustainable change in communities facing health disparities due to climate stressors like heat waves. The Mountain West ACE-CH Hub works with rural and urban focal communities in Colorado to understand how communities are experiencing climate stressors, such as heat waves, and identify opportunities to advance climate justice. Global crises continue to impact communities around the globe, and we risk losing generations of knowledge. By investing in scholars confined or displaced by violence, natural disasters, public health emergencies, or systemic injustice, we can preserve and uplift their lives and the numerous lives they touch. I am looking forward to meeting with our partners at the Scholar Rescue Fund Forum to discuss creating, sustaining, and expanding partnerships that will preserve human capital and empower communities throughout Europe. About the Forum: The IIE Scholar Rescue Fund Forum is a one-day conference that will convene a diverse set of more than 100 IIE-SRF stakeholders from Europe and around the world to highlight innovative partnerships and initiatives that are driving sustainable programming to support threatened and displaced scholars. Participants will learn from and be inspired by IIE-SRF partners across sectors and at the local, regional, and national levels whose efforts are enhancing existing support models and bridging geographic distances. We will also hear from IIE-SRF fellows and alumni who are impacting their home and host communities. #IIESRFForum24

We've developed a Research Impact Framework to offer invaluable guidance to researchers and funders, outlining key enablers and success strategies for achieving impactful research. Our Research Impact Framework is a culmination of insights gathered over a decade of experience with our Research for Health in Humanitarian Crisis (#R2HC) programme. It incorporates desk analysis of a curated collection of impact case studies we’ve funded and a review of available literature. The result? Our study, using a modified Delphi method, has pinpointed key learning objectives to improve healthcare integration for refugees. 🚰 Will water scarcity block Cambridge's £300m cancer hospital? Analysis from Ryan Bogle below.   The proposed £300m cancer research hospital in Cambridge is at risk due to the East of England's severe water shortage. The Environment Agency's concerns about local water supply, worsened by rapid population growth, have raised doubts about the project's viability.    As one of the UK's driest regions, Cambridge faces a deepening water crisis. While the government's recently introduced water credits system provides a potential solution, proactive measures are critical to ensure water supply and enable the construction of essential projects like the university-backed research hospital.    With projected water shortages of 800 million litres per day by 2050, local and national governments must prioritise sustainable development approaches and secure the East of England's water supply.
