As a sector, GMS companies have largely been left out of conversations and actions on equity. That needs to change. One of my calls to action at PEAK Grantmaking's #PEAK2024seattle convening during the Reimagine Leadership keynote was to ensure they're no longer left out and that funders engage them more on the topic of equity. Of the three GMS companies that expressed their interest in starting this conversation, GivingData is the first to move from talk to action. That’s why I’m glad to join them for their Equity in Practice event in New York City next week and speak with Roberto Cremonini for a direct, open, and vulnerable conversation about the call to action and equitable grantmaking practices. We'll also address the specifics about what GivingData is doing, hasn’t done, and is learning as a model for how funders, grantees, and GMS companies can collaborate on equitable practices. I’m also looking forward to hearing Mya Goodman share insights from GivingData’s DEIB committee and how GMS companies can address equity without losing their bottom line as corporations. This is a first for a GMS company to have a holistic event about equity that is not just product-specific, and I commend GivingData for modeling leadership here. Thank you Liz Fischer, Roberto Cremonini, Mya Goodman, Casey DeSain, and Carl Seid for the level of detail and intention you brought to the development of this event.
