How do funders acknowledge and mitigate the barriers within their own systems? Over the past few years, there has been growing recognition of the role that power plays in the world of funding and the philanthropic sector. In partnership with J R McKenzie Trust, the Centre for Social Impact created The Philanthropic Landscape Volume II: Shifting Culture and Power Through Mana-enhancing Partnerships as a companion to The Philanthropic Landscape: A Review of Trends and Contemporary Practices. The paper explores the stories of ten funders and four ngā kaikōkiri from across Aotearoa and Australia, drawing insights from their experiences in focusing on impactful, mana-enhancing funding partnerships. These insights and learnings from our philanthropic neighbors can serve as a guide or inspiration for funding entities to explore their potential for creating mana-enhancing funding partnerships and initiatives. If your nonprofit doubled its revenue, would it achieve its mission? What about tripled? The honest answer is probably no if those funds were solely invested in existing programs.
