As we mark Earth Day today, it prompts us to ask: What's the point of dedicating just one day to recognise the planet when it should be an everyday commitment? The answer lies in this simple truth: as we've become more detached from our natural environment, we need a reminder of our inextricable connection to it, regardless of how far removed we believe ourselves to be. Every action we take impacts nature, just as nature impacts us in return. In our pursuit of sustainable development, whilst improving living standards, we need to consider our impact on the planet at every stage. Integrating these goals holds immense potential: not only in mitigating the dire environmental issues we face today but also in raising living standards to levels we're only beginning to imagine—one that respects the earth and helps our communities flourish. In the building industry, efforts to reconnect with our environment are intensifying. Through updating policies aimed at delivering net-zero targets, conscious implementation of sustainable building practices throughout construction, and with support from ESD specialists like us at GIW, we're striving to protect, nurture, and promote a balanced relationship between nature and the built landscape. As we assess our challenges, today we also celebrate our achievements and recognise the power of collective action in addressing the issues we face. At GIW Environmental Solutions Pty Ltd ("GIW"), we commemorate this progress and remain firmly committed to contributing to greater success in accomplishing ambitious sustainability objectives. #EarthDay #ESD #Sustainability

Let's march safely towards Net Zero! In our journey towards a safer and more sustainable industrial world, the choice of materials is crucial. One of our valued clients is leading by example, employing GRP as a material of choice. GRP offers substantial environmental advantages. GRP reduces the energy required for production and installation as a lighter alternative to traditional materials like steel. This lighter weight also translates into lower carbon emissions during transportation 🌍. Additionally, its durability and resistance to corrosion mean that GRP components have a longer lifespan and require fewer replacements, further reducing environmental impact 🛠️. This reduces the overall Embodied Carbon measured as per UK Green Building Council (UKGBC)'s guidance. Moreover, GRP is renowned for its superior anti-slip properties, which enhance safety by significantly reducing the risk of slips and falls in industrial environments. This is particularly crucial in settings where the blend of high traffic and heavy machinery increases the need for robust safety measures. The high traction surface of anti-slip GRP ensures that personnel can move safely (in compliance with Health and Safety Executive's regulations) efficiently, even under challenging conditions 🚶♂️⚠️. The adoption of GRP in industrial settings showcases a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. The visible yellow GRP handrails and robust gratings are not just practical - they symbolize a dedication to creating safer, more sustainable industrial spaces 🏭. As we all march towards our net-zero goals, applying GRP in such facilities is a prime example of how industry leaders effectively balance safety with environmental responsibility 🌟. Join us in celebrating these advancements as we promote safer and greener industrial solutions across all sectors 🎉 #SafetyFirst #SustainableSolutions #NetZeroGoals #IndustrialSafety #EcoFriendly #InnovationInIndustry #GreenTechnology #Infrastructure #EngineeringExcellence #FutureOfWork

Our latest white paper explores the sustainability practices among Building systems suppliers and technology providers. We delved into mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and vertical transport systems, to understand their sustainability initiatives with respect to materials, end of life, net zero targets, third party sustainability certifications and more. #responsiblesystems #sustainabilty #buildingsystems
The Green Building Council of Australia launched an update to its Responsible Products Program in late 2023 and LCI Consultants took the opportunity to delve deep into the sustainability practices of our suppliers and technology providers. In our white paper, we explore the intricate network of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and vertical transport systems that form the backbone of modern buildings. While these systems are hidden behind walls and floors, their impact on sustainability is significant. Our research, involving nearly 50 suppliers, highlights the urgent need to optimise building systems not just for operational efficiency but also to address resource consumption, environmental impact, and carbon emissions. Key findings include: 📗 The challenges suppliers face in achieving sustainability certifications. 📗 The importance of selecting eco-friendly materials and adopting sustainable manufacturing practices. 📗 Recommendations for improving energy efficiency, waste management, and public disclosure. Download our white paper and join us in advancing sustainable building practices. Need guidance on these topics? What does Europe’s tallest tower – the Varso Tower in Warsaw, Poland – have in common with 30 Hudson Yards in New York? At first glance, you might think not much. Both these green buildings are protected by more durable AkzoNobel powder coatings that have an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). An EPD provides an independently verified assessment of a coating's environmental impact across its lifespan, from the raw materials supply through the manufacturing process and product use, right up to its end of life. EPDs are increasingly important in the built environment sector, which is currently responsible for around 37% of energy-related carbon emissions globally. You can learn more about EPDs and how they contribute to green building certification points here - https://lnkd.in/etqBpZ84 #greenbuildings #sustainablebuiltenvironment #AkzoNobel #EPD
