Glad to have been invited by Akili Dada Akili to a validation of findings from a Research on *Sexual Gender Based Violence(SGBV)* dubbed *"Closing the Gap"* that was conducted in 8 counties in Kenya-Mombasa, Kisumu,Siaya, Homabay,Samburu, Turkana, Kwale and Kilifi. #WomenGainingGround.

We need to teach ourselves about Gender Based Violence and then take what we have learnt back to the communities. Today’s final panel explored the impact of gender-based violence on youth. GBV not only affects safety but also limits economic opportunities and dreams. The session called for stronger protection and support for young people. Addressing #violence, in all its forms and in all places, has never been so important. How can #youngpeople take #action to end #genderbasedviolence in #SouthAfrica? Our recent #campaign with Sonke Gender Justice used a competition and easy-access #website to raise #awareness on the National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. Happy to share that a case study based on our intervention with Men and Boys on Gender Justice in the Indian State of Maharashtra has just been published in the book Towards Sustainable Futures. The unique aspect of this case study was that the evaluation of the work was done over two years after the intervention was over. The case study has valuable lessons for how 'sustainability' can be integrated into planning process of social interventions; how complex social interventions can be evaluated to understand 'sustainability', how work around men and boys involvement for gender justice can be planned, executed and evaluated. #InterternationalGirlChildDay Investing in the girl child means allocating resources to amplify their voices. However, this investment will always be incomplete unless we, as a society, shift the norms around men's accountability and responsibilities.
