This week SNV participated in a #EU #TeamEurope visit in #Benin with Koen DOENS Joris Jurriëns and other EU development partners #AFD #Enabel. One of the joint projects launched during the visit was Investing in Young Business in Africa #IYBA this project strengthens entrepreneurial ecosystems for young businesses in Benin. In synergy the Ambassade du Royaume des Pays-Bas au Bénin is funding the Youth Employment for Food Security Improvement (EJASA) project. The project's objective is to increase income for young people, especially women, who work in agriculture by improving productivity through climate-resilient practices and adding value through transformation. Both projects are supporting entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises and the creation of youth employment in Benin.

DFF together with USAID Feed the Future Uganda Strategic Investments Activity (SIA) will be curating two sessions at the 2024 Sankalp Forum:   1. We will host a Pre-Sankalp investor roundtable event on the 27th of February with the objective of shining a spotlight on Uganda as an investment destination. We will also use this opportunity to hear back from the investors on their experience investing in and interacting with entrepreneurs in Uganda. This feedback will be incorporated in our different strategies to enable us better support our entrepreneurs. 2. Secondly, we will host a deal room on the 28th of February, giving a total of 15 businesses an opportunity to pitch to investors. 3. Additionally we will have an exhibition booth that will double as a networking station. The FSD Uganda- Deal Flow facility team, will be facilitating these sessions led by our E.D Patrick Oketa. Mr Akinwumi Adesina is correct. I sincerely hope that the African Development Bank has included mechanisms in its deployment strategy for these new institutions for youth entrepreneurship to facilitate the acquisition of funds. We are all aware of how slow institutions, especially banks, can be. While governments play a crucial role in realizing youth programs in their respective countries, I hope they will refrain from controlling or managing the funds, as this approach is likely to be ineffective. Instead, governments should focus on their roles as regulators and policy facilitators. It is essential for the #AFDB to collaborate with business schools, incubators, accelerators, and existing investor networks to ensure that funds are directed towards functional ecosystems and talented entrepreneurs. Innovation is abundant in our continent; however, we need to enhance education and reinforce existing knowledge through training. Providing youth with the necessary tools and opportunities, prioritizing local solutions, and focusing on rural development are crucial steps to elevate our continent to its rightful place. #innovation #funding #entrepreneurship #youth #development #ecosystems #vision #humancapital #empowerment #africa African Development Bank Group

The #Youth are indeed #Africa's best #Assets, and we must #invest in them. It is therefore a very laudable and welcomed development to have Youth Entrepreneurship Investment Banks (YEIBs) to significantly impact Africa's economy by fostering #entrepreneurship among the continent's youthful population. We are however more concerned with the #implementation and #sustainability of initiatives like these. Because by supporting young entrepreneurs, YEIBs can contribute immensely to #JobCreation, #Innovation, and #EconomicGrowth, addressing the critical need for inclusive economic development and leveraging the demographic dividend of Africa's large youth population.
