Compared with the rest of the world, how are we doing with our construction waste, New Zealand? 🏗️🌏 The construction sector has come under fire recently about their waste volumes. However, a recent journal article, published on an open access platform, has assessed the amount of interest globally on the topic of sustainable construction waste management. This article, "Examining the Drivers to Support Improved Construction and Demolition Waste Management for a Circular Economy: A Comprehensive Review Using a Systematic Approach" was authored by Alhawamdeh, Ferriz-Papi, and Lee. The authors used published research articles to examine the amount of interest in this topic and the key drivers to support better environmental outcomes (https://lnkd.in/gmjmp2qt). A key finding was that "Regarding Oceania, and considering their small continent size, their representativity in this analysis is substantial". 𝗣𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝘂𝗺’𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 Frédéric Coupain, Head of Service for the Collectors and Pumping Stations division at IDEA - Coeur du Hainaut, shared insights on the use of the 𝗖𝗢₂ 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗿 in their €5.6M procurement for renovating the Wasmuël wastewater treatment plant. 🌍 This project, funded by Société Publique de Gestion de l'Eau (SPGE), prioritized CO₂ reduction in the award criteria, demonstrating the efficiency of integrating environmental considerations. The CO₂ Performance Ladder played a pivotal role in evaluating bidders' CO₂ ambition levels, applying a fictitious reduction to tender prices to incentivize sustainable practices. 🏆 The contract was awarded to the joint venture Jan De Nul Group – John COCKERILL, showcasing the practical benefits of this approach. 🌿 Frédérics advice to other public authorities seeking to 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗢₂ 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 throughout the life-cycle of a project?
