🛡️ Building Resilience in Southern Punjab's Flood-Prone Areas 🌾 The Punjab Rural Support Programme, with the support of the German Development Cooperation, recently conducted vital trainings on livestock management during heat waves and floods. In the flood-prone union councils of Kot Addu, 49 livestock keepers, including 30 women, participated in these sessions. For many female participants, it was their first-ever opportunity to attend a capacity-building event on livestock. The trainings focused on three key areas to enhance resilience: ✅ Improved animal husbandry practices ✅ Connecting participants with experts for ongoing advice & support ✅ Access to interest-free loans 💡 Thus, the participants gained essential knowledge and skills to help reduce livestock mortality, increase productivity, and ensure the sustainability of their livelihoods. #ClimateActionNow #Resilience #SustainableDevelopment #LivestockManagement #GIZPakistan Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

Project of the day: Lata Dam, Voi Kenya. Constructed in 1968 by the post-colonial administration and further improvements done by the national government in 2006. The dam which serves the greater communities in Sagalla, has its main inlets as the stormwater. The main uses are for domestic, livestock, and wild animal consumption. There are extensive agricultural activities along the banks and to some extent dam-bed during dry seasons. Efforts are in place to enforce encroachment policies along the banks of water resources. WATER IS LIFE, LIFE IS WATER.

NULLARBOR CAMELS Camels in Australia was not a thing until 1840’s. However, currently Australia supports an estimated population of 300,000 feral One-humped camels (Camelus dromedarius) in WA, SA, and NT. We were so fortunate to locate several herds of camels while surveying Nullarbor in early June. The one below was filmed near Rawlinna. "Harry” the first camel landed in Australia in 1840 and up to 20,000 were subsequently introduced between 1840’s and 1907 mainly for transportation. But after introducing motor vehicles in 1920s, camels were released into the wild. A camel population can double in every 8 years leading to devastating impacts on habitats, native herbivores, and livestock. #traceenterprises #invasivespecies #camelsinaustralia #nullarbor #feralanimals

Director, Animal Production and Health Division (NSA) and Chief Veterinarian at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
Their livelihoods depend on livestock, and FAO support during extreme droughts is helping them stay resilient. With initiatives like providing cattle fodder and promoting climate-smart farming, they’re overcoming significant challenges. 💪 Vera shares, “Animals, like children, have their own expenses. When you can hardly provide bread for your children, it's obviously even harder to buy animal feed.” Thanks to funding from the Government of Japan, FAO distributed animal fodder to nearly 3,000 herders in early 2024. By early 2025, support from the Austrian Development Cooperation and Switzerland will help feed another 4,880 families relying on their livestock. Together, we can help families like the Gradinarus thrive! 🌾 🐄🐐🐓🐑 ✅ Read more about their journey and the vital support they’re receiving ➡️ bit.ly/45CnuBR #Resilience #ClimateSmartFarming #SustainableLivestock #FAOLivestock #FAOemergencies #FAOclimate

Last week, we had the opportunity to visit some farms with colleagues in Vietnam. As you can see from the photos the strange white bird is a local chicken breed in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Farm design is very basic so biosecurity is one of the barrier factors in livestock farming. From epidemic control to #Biosercurity, #Hygiene and operational management, everything is almost out of control. So how can #Schippers help them improve it? *How can make germ-free enviroment living ? *How can bring the clean water to animal ? 📚Let discussion with me in the next steps
