Iodised salt production in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has been revitalised through an initiative by the Mahyra Utama Sejahtera Cooperative (MUSE) from East Java, an SME supported by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). MUSE, with GAIN's support, has developed various strategies to strengthen and ensure a stable supply chain for local iodised salt, sourced from quality local raw materials. This has been achieved through strong collaboration with local policymakers in NTT, including the Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency (BAPPERIDA), the Department of Industry and Trade, the Provincial Health Office, the Cooperative and SMEs Office, and the Indonesia Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM). Concrete actions include identifying and mapping salt producers, advocating for policies, enhancing iodisation capacity (adding iodine to salt), and titration (testing iodine content in salt) for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and large-scale producers. The strengthening of local iodised salt production has been formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SMEs and the Provincial Health Office, as well as the NTT Provincial Industry and Trade Office. This project is a vital step toward ensuring better public health outcomes in NTT by reducing iodine deficiency, improving nutrition, and supporting the local economy. #adulteration_in_ghee The recent Tirupati Laddu issue has made ripples in minds of the Hindus. Most of whom i interacted do not believe that such a thing would have happened, but somewhere i could see a sense of discomfort in this. I want to address an issue I've been advocating for since 2018—lab test reports on product purity should be made public for all major brands. Smaller manufacturers should be prepared to provide these reports on request. If such an incident really occurred, the punishment should be severe because it goes against our religion and could have affected millions of devotees. In summary, lab test reports should be mandatory for all manufacturers. To me, the current issue seems like a political stunt, but it raises an important question: Have you ever asked your manufacturer about the purity of the ghee you're consuming? How many Temple authorities ask for purity report from their vendors? Those making noise now never raised concerns when tons of adulterated ghee and paneer were being seized. Common adulterants in dairy products include urea, wall paint, artificial ghee essence, vegetable oils, animal fats, mineral fats, and starch. We should demand the harshest punishment for those responsible for such acts. I know many people buying desi ghee from areas known for selling it as cheaply as ₹350-400 per liter. Many of their customers are well-off professionals. Before buying, ask yourself if these low prices are truly justified. It takes 25 liters of cow's milk to produce 1 liter of ghee, and while other byproducts are sold, it only marginally lowers the cost of ghee.
