The Ghana Cocoa Traceability System is ready!✨ A delegation from European Union in Ghana, Swiss Embassy , Dutch Embassy, GIZ Ghana, Ghana Cocoa Board-COCOBOD and World Cocoa Foundation monitored the traceability chain from farm (Assin Fosu) to port (Takoradi). At Assin Fosu, over 40,000 farms have been mapped and 20,000+ farmers (40% females) registered onto the system. The system has been successfully used to purchase and ship over 1,230 bags of sustainable cocoa. By December 2024, Ghana is expected to fully operationalize the traceability system throughout the country to meet the demand of the European market. The traceability system is a gamechanger for Ghana to manage deforestation and child labor in cocoa production and promote living income among farmers. The project is supported by the European Union and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Ghana Cocoa Board-COCOBOD. #CocoaTraceability #SustainableCocoa #GhanaCocoa #BMZ #Germancooperation

I wrote about this in 2022. What support is Switzerland giving? There was no attempt to help Ghana with the CMS at the time. https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/business/west-africa-braces-for-tough-sustainable-cocoa-rules-in-europe/47713236
DECARBONIZING AFRICA’S CITIES The Centre for Sustainable Africa Agenda (CSAA) is very keen in pursuing Collaborations/Partnerships with interested organisations for the following project: YOUTH CYCLE FOR CLIMATEACTION IN AFRICA'S CITIES: WHY? The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates: 1. Each year, in Africa over one million people die prematurely from CO2 and other transportation emissions 2. Each year Africa spends over €200 billion on transportation emission diseases like cardiovascular/ lung complications OTHER REASONS 3. These emissions contribute seriously to Climate Change and significantly affect agricultural production in Africa. 4. Over 65% of Africa’s population will live in her urban centers/cities by 2060 signifying more deaths if nothing is done about this situation 5. Employment for the Youth especially young women 6. Decarbonization and Sustainability of cities in Africa MAJOR PROJECT OBJECTIVE To create a Culture of Cycling in Africa to ensure 40% decarbonization of Africa's urban centers/cities with cycling by 2030 JOIN US....SUPPORT THIS ECO-SUSTAINABLE PROJECT! A Game Changer will be that we process our Cocoa; and Europeans buy them from us; in Cedis, mind you.
Thank you very much for these interesting insights, it’s been a great opportunity to learn about the traceability system.
My only prayers is Galamsayers don’t find their way to Assin . They are destroying cocoa farms for gold mining.😭
Amazing strides, Any contacts other Africans countries like Cameroon can reach out to , if we want to also pilot this.
We need such initiative in the cocoa sector to encourage transparency.
GIZ Ghana that is fantastic experience within the cocoa value chain, but did the team used triangulation methods to validate the level farmers satisfaction from some cocoa projects within the landscape visited?
Francis I see you!

2moPurchasing raw cocoa beans at cheap prices from these local farmers to boost the European Market demand for raw materials which when transformed into finished products these same local farmers cannot afford to buy doesn't improve their lives any better. Why not establish processing plants locally to transform the raw cocoa beans into finished products here instead of aiding to export them without the needed market value?
