Kidderminster's position at the junction of several main roads made it a place of strategic importance during the English Civil War, with several skirmishes taking place in and around the town.
In 1670–1 Kidderminster's cloth industry obtained a guild by act of parliament and by 1677, the town had as many as 459 weavers and perhaps 3,000 spinners.
Following King Louis XIV's revocation of the Edict of Nantes in October 1685 and the subsequent renewed persecution of French Protestants in France, many Huguenots emigrated to Britain.
The immigration and settlement of waves of industrious Huguenots brought the benefits of skilled artisans, merchants and manufacturers to Britain.
They contributed to a preexisting but basic cloth weaving industry in towns and cities throughout England, in some cases establishing new businesses. In Worcestershire, the Huguenots established themselves at Worcester, Evesham, Droitwich and Kidderminster.

We appreciate the shout out, Latarsha B.! And we are so happy to support and celebrate this very American holiday; at the same time recognizing that our democracy is still very much a work in progress. But, if we use the past to learn and self-reflect in the present, we can be better human beings in the present and future. #JuneteenthPrinceton Hydro

I’ve run a live demonstration of CACI Ltd’s new cloud-based catchment reporting system, InSite Everywhere.
If you’re developing residential units or looking to acquire new sites in the UK, InSite unlocks the ability to efficiently appraise sites prior to acquisition and quickly validate the appropriateness of sites you’re reviewing.
🔍 Today, we explore Seaburn, Sunderland - a popular seaside location in the UK achieving disproportionately high monthly rents versus the property values. In just two-minutes, I discovered:

Wonderful to visit with Sharon Moe and Eva Kang of North State Bank as they came to Apex to talk about community impact.
Eva is new to the team and will be making more connections in the Apex area. Enjoyed identifying key relationships to open the door of opportunity through the Apex Chamber of Commerce
Sharon was one of my first contacts I made when I arrived in downtown Raleigh to work with Campbell Law. When I was building my network (as I was new to downtown Raleigh), everyone said that I had to meet her. I’m grateful that she took me up on a networking meeting that many years ago and she is still paying it forward for others.

Economic Overview | The Impact of Rising Costs on Spending and Lending
As household budget resilience wanes, the long-term effects of escalating interest rates and living expenses are increasingly reflected in recent household spending and lending data.
Household Spending Trends:
January 2024 data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reveals a rise in household expenditure. Essential (non-discretionary) spending surged by 5.6%, with non-essential (discretionary) spending up by just 0.2%. The largest increases were transport costs by 9.4%, recreation and culture by 6.3%—a notable increase from previous months' figures below 0.5%—and health expenses by 5.3%. This uplift in recreation and culture, encompassing items like sports equipment and books, aligns with the back-to-school season, highlighting shifts in consumer priorities amidst changing economic conditions.
Lending Landscape:
Also from the ABS, new housing loan commitments fell 3.9% in January 2024 increased 8.5% year-on-year. January also witnessed a 6.0% increase in personal fixed-term loans (for items such as vehicles, equipment, household goods, and travel), culminating in a 13.6% annual growth—total personal loan now at the highest value in over a decade.
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA)'s Q4 2023 reports over half of the previously fixed low-interest housing loans have now rolled onto higher rates and non-performing loans have increased for a fourth consecutive quarter signaling a growing financial strain among borrowers.

🚇💰🔥 Absolutely outrageous! At a time when every penny counts for the citizens of London, struggling under the crushing weight of a severe cost of living crisis, our leadership decides to fritter away precious taxpayer money on the frivolous task of renaming Overground lines. This isn't just a misstep; it's a glaring testament to misplaced priorities and a profound disconnect from the realities of everyday Londoners.
How can Mayor Sadiq Khan justify such a wasteful expenditure? Renaming lines does nothing to ease the commute, lower fares, or improve the reliability of services — issues that genuinely affect millions of us daily. Instead of directing funds towards initiatives that could alleviate the financial strain on families and improve public transport's efficiency, we see a spectacle of vanity projects that offer no real value to the people footing the bill.
This isn't just a joke; it's a slap in the face to every resident who has ever had to make tough choices due to the economic squeeze. It raises serious questions about the decision-making processes at City Hall and where our interests truly lie in their list of priorities.
We must demand accountability and transparency in how our contributions are being used. It's high time for a shift in focus towards investments that bring about real, positive changes in the lives of London's populace, rather than symbolic gestures that are out of touch with our needs.
