We’re only as good as what our clients say, and we appreciate that they say lovely things about us: “I can have over 50 consultants working on a major project at any one time. Glanville are among a handful that have earned this level of trust. I can’t stress how important that is, and it doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from longstanding working relationships built on mutual respect and professionalism.“ A big thank you to Alex Szarawarski – Technical Director, Barrett David Wilson. #review #clientreview #structuralengineering #civilengineering #highwaysengineering #transportplanning #geomaticssurveying #buildingsurveying #consultancy #testimonial

Today marks World menopause day, a part of life that almost half of the population goes through at some point, each to varying levels... and yet it's barely talked about. World Menopause Day is an annual event to bring awareness to the challenges faced during menopause and to empower women to take charge of their own health. This year's theme is ‘Menopause Hormone Therapy’ also known as MHT (or HRT). MHT is a treatment that can help relieve symptoms of menopause by restoring hormone levels. Thanks to Ruth Eve for the picture on this post which is of some of the gorgeous autumn leaves outside our office in Didcot. We wanted to post this to help further awareness and understanding Menopause Info. #worldmenopauseday #HRT #ims2024 #internationalmenopausesociety

Back in September, four members of the Hemel office attended the BERKELEY HOMES (OXFORD & CHILTERN) LIMITED go-karting charity event. The 3-hour endurance race was in the name of Alexander Devine Hospice and the event raised a fantastic £16,737. Everyone had a great time, despite the rain by the end of the evening. Glanville even managed a team-best finish of 6th overall.

Congratulations to John Hanlon for not only completing the Oxford Half Marathon over the weekend, but for doing it in a great time of just over two hours (2.03). With almost perfect running conditions, he even managed to do some networking, running alongside Rob Linnell, Director - Planning at Savills (who finished a bit further ahead), Tim Wraith, Partnerships Fundraising Manager at Homeless Oxfordshire and Hamish Law, Commercial Director at Get Support IT Services. John was running in aid of Homeless Oxfordshire and is hoping to raise £500. If you’d like to donate, you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/eNNzCF-K

This week marks ‘National Recycle Week’ (running 14 - 20 October) with this year's theme- 'Rescue Me'. Now in its 21st year, Recycle Week is Recycle Now’s flagship annual event. A celebration of recycling across the nation, galvanising the public into recycling more of the right things, more often. At Glanville, we’re big on the three R’s - reduce, reuse and recycle and try to put this practice into our everyday lives; be it ensuring we recycle as much office waste as possible, reusing or reducing materials where possible and generally being kind to the environment with regular team gardening sessions.

Materials are the backbone of construction - using the right material with the right properties can enhance the aesthetics, reduce the damage it has on the environment and can sometimes mean fewer materials are needed in certain areas resulting in a less expensive build. With that in mind, the Glanville team love finding out about the latest mixed materials and working out how we can incorporate them into our clients’ projects. Our latest find is these bricks made of recycled concrete and CO2, developed by researchers at The University of Tokyo. To make the building blocks, the old concrete was ground down into a powder and then sieved and carbonated over three months. This natural process, in which compounds in concrete react with the CO2 in the air to form calcium carbonate, is usually slow. However, the researchers sped up the process, then pressured the materials in layers in a mold, and finally heated it to form blocks. Rather than relying on new concrete or bricks, the technique could offer a way to recycle old material while also trapping CO2 in the process. Theoretically, the bricks could be made again and again through the same process. Glanville is out on the road... well, on two wheels anyway... We’ve just taken delivery of our new bike jerseys, and some of the team gladly tested them out on a ‘light’ 30-mile bike ride the other day. On this ride, were Mateusz Rak, Matthew Calvert, Warren Nienaber, Graeme Turner, Kevin Payne and Alex Jackson.

Today is World Architecture Day, a day close to the hearts of everyone at Glanville. Architecture, Structural Design, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Highways and Transport Planning and 3D Studio all go hand in hand. When each element works together, it can be seamless and create useful, practical or simply beautiful designs. At Glanville, we’ve had the opportunity to work with some fantastic architectural practices and are grateful for the projects, work and relationships we have built together. #WorldArchitectureDay #Glanville #Engineering #Architecture #Design
