Water is a basic human right, yet millions worldwide still lack access to clean, safe water. This Human Rights Day, let’s come together to address this pressing issue and take action to make clean water accessible to everyone. Supporting a cause is one way to help. Contribute to organizations dedicated to clean water access and infrastructure improvements. These groups work tirelessly to ensure safe water is available to communities in need. Another impactful step is hosting a fundraiser. Mobilize your community to raise funds for projects that deliver clean water to underserved regions. Small efforts can collectively create a significant impact. Lastly, spread awareness. Use your voice to highlight the importance of water access as a fundamental human right. Every conversation brings us closer to a future where everyone enjoys this essential resource. Let’s honor Human Rights Day by working toward a future where clean water is a reality for all. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change. #HumanRightsDay #CleanWaterForAll #WaterIsLife #ActForChange

Read latest article by Martyn Jones, who's writing we feature in our newsletter each month. "Sir Keir Starmer has promised to build a “government of service”, a mission-driven government with a real sense of purpose, a force for good, and a return to public service. In recent years there has been a growing realisation that construction projects can also be a force for good by not only fulfilling their clients’ requirements but also engaging with and serving the wider community. In fact, we are increasingly being urged to add social value to our projects to support ‘levelling up’, the creation of jobs and long-term employment, ethical and low-carbon supply chain sourcing, engaging with charities and community organisations, and promoting a sense of identity and cohesion within communities." If there ever was a time to donate to Haiti Outreach, it would be now. Please consider doing so at https://lnkd.in/gam4tDdH I elaborate below - thanks for your consideration. The Bad The security situation in Haiti has deteriorated, and this has made it difficult to do anything in the country. Haiti Outreach works in areas of the country less-affected by violence, but costs have gone through the roof (as one example, gas is 7 times its normal cost) while revenue sources have dried up as projects are put on hold. There is an urgent need for funding to get through this period until the security situation improves. The Good Somehow, despite all of this, the work of Haiti Outreach has reached a tipping point and is building towards the long-term development we all want for the country. There are so many examples of HO's recent successes along these lines. The most obviously-recognizable success is the 24/7 piped water system now functioning in Piyon, the first of its kind in Haiti. There are many more examples that point to the transformative nature of this work. HO's work has evolved from drilling wells (physical infrastructure) to organizing communities to maintain their wells (local social infrastructure) to sustainable leadership coaching - building the widespread social infrastructure necessary to work together; to make and enact group decisions. In my opinion, this capacity of local government is precisely what is missing in the country and is precisely what is necessary to make sure that we do not end up back where we are right now. HO has found effective techniques to build up this capacity while working around the issue of access to clean water. As HO's country director Neil Van Dine said on a zoom call last week, "Everything Haiti Outreach has built in Haiti over the past 27 years is still working. Even this past week, with the whole country in chaos, we got another well drilled! Our team continues to show up and put in the work – every day!" The stories I have heard of HO's team members showing up are heroic. I am inspired by their hard work to enact the vision of Haiti becoming a developed country, and I hope you will consider supporting that work. Support the commons "The commons" refers to shared resources, whether natural (like air, water, or forests) or cultural (like knowledge or information), that are accessible to all members of a community and are managed collectively through shared rules and governance systems, rather than being solely owned by individuals or the state; essentially, a resource that everyone has the right to use and responsibility to protect. Without the commons, our communications, knowledge, and networked society would be lost and artificial intelligence dumbed down. Commons.org works to help support and expand the commons and the role it plays in our social milieu. It's an international effort which needs institutional and personal support and funding.
