Have you ever thought about these questions? ⚓️ What is your Anchor in life? ⚓️ What keeps you grounded? In everyone’s life journey, there are bound to be challenges and stormy times. One of the most difficult period in my life was when I made the switch from being an Auditor to a Financial Consultant 14 years ago. Unlike the new generation of FCs, back then there was no monthly salary during those times. Everything was commission based and I only had $2000 savings. The transition was tough. I was young with no network, below average communication skills, knowledge was lacking. These circumstances and the thought of my savings depleting each day was overwhelming. I always wanted a big family, 4 kids and naming each of them by the acronym T.E.AM. This was my life goal and I knew only by changing career, I have a chance to achieve it. Despite the odds, I hung on to this belief, this switch now will help my future family. #Family is my Anchor. I worked hard but hard work without results could make one tired and down. That was when my Anchor gave me strength and direction. It reminded me of what truly matters even when it all seemed difficult. This kept my emotions stable. The breakthrough came when I started to have customers one by one in my 2nd month. They were my lifesaver and whenever I meet them, I would always thank them for their support in my initial years 🙏 Without them, my Anchor would not be a reality today. 😌 Every now and then, during days that I feel not as good, I will think of my Anchor, recharge and come back stronger the next day. ⚓️ What is your Anchor? Share your story and inspire others to find their own. #LifeAnchor #LifeJourney #Family #Career

I help HR professionals improve engagement with employees 📈 | 🏆 Top #2 Advisor in AIA Brunei 2023 | Certified Financial Planner and MDRT in Brunei 🇧🇳 | I love miniatures, coffee, talking ideas and systems
I quit a senior police role to become a financial planner. Sure the perks were great; I had a good salary, a pension was waiting for me at the end of the tunnel and I was serving #Brunei quite directly. So what made me make the jump? Obviously, it wasn’t entirely monetary. I’m what you can consider one of the extremes of wanting something different. And for me this “something” was growth. I was hungry for personally and professional growth; both seemingly stifled in my previous role. And the result? Well going through ups and downs (and having been in a mentally dark spot at one point) I have no regrets at all! The growth I’m seeking can only be found when not tied to the uniform; that’s my learning point. Are you considering a jump for yourself? Let’s have a chat. Emerging Professional in Project Management Office (PMO) |Student Member, Association for Project Management| Dedicated to Excellence & Growth
In our society, there's a strong focus on conforming to traditional norms in how we live our lives, manage our relationships, and pursue our careers. People who deviate from these conventional paths often face social stigma. In their book Dark Horse: Achieving Success Through the Pursuit of Fulfillment. Todd Rose a professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Ogi Ogas an American writer and neuroscientist coined the term “Standardization Covenant” where we trade personal fulfillment in pursuit of a ladder of professional excellence. The authors note that individuals who have non-linear career paths often figure out what they value and find passion, purpose, and fulfillment in their work. In her newsletter, Simone Stolzoff discusses Khemaridh (Khe) Hy Hy, a former Wall Street banker who chose to leave his finance career following the birth of his first daughter., "Compared to the risk of an uncertain financial future, I realized the riskier thing was for my kid to watch their dad be checked out and do something just for money." Certainly, there isn't a singular, clear-cut career trajectory, but embracing opportunities for experimentation can guide us toward discovering our sense of direction. #UnconventionalCareerPaths #LifeBeyondConformity #CareerExploration #NonLinearCareers
Latest NEXT! excerpt... I interviewed hundreds of people who have made major transitions in life or work. In this excerpt, CNBC highlights one of the most inspiring: Khemaridh (Khe) Hy, who left what he *thought* was his dream job as a seven-figure managing director, for what he realized was his *real* dream job - one that allows him to put his family and his passions first. H/t to Kevin Delaney for first introducing me to Khe! #careers #careeradvice #worklifebalance #nextthebook #NEXT https://lnkd.in/eEXu4_g8
