Read about one of our previous projects where environmental performance is a result of ecology being integrated with the building design. This was and is still an unique project which the team is extremely proud of for its Low-Tech Systems and High-Impact Performance. #engineering #construction #architecture #landscape #ecology #buildingphysics #buildingscience
A Biomaterial-Based Roof Insulation That Keeps On Growing The Sisonke District Office in Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal, is a flagship example of how building design can integrate environmental performance. Its green roof is more than just insulation; it is a living, growing ecosystem with over 100 species of endemic plants. This roof helps regulate temperature year-round, cooling the building in summer through soil evaporation and insulating it during winter. This project, carried out with Steve Kinsler Architects, also maximizes natural ventilation, daylight, and underfloor heating. These passive design elements support the building's performance without active cooling or ventilation systems, allowing it to stand out as a model of affordable, low-energy architecture. Please read the attached to discover more. #GreenRoofDesign #PassiveDesign #AffordableArchitecture #Biodiversity #LowEnergyBuildings Steve Kinsler PJC+Partners Dr Peta Brom

HAVE YOU EVER HEARD ABOUT GREEN ROOFS?? #GreenRoofs #Introduction #Architecture #BuildingPhysics Green roofs are a smart and eco-friendly way to design buildings. They can improve energy efficiency and offer greater spaces for users and cities. Consider soil depth and plant types for shade and moisture control. Offer clients a beautiful rooftop space with good views and quality air. Avoid urban heat islands and create an oasis in modern cities. All of this will help your project and its quality. You just need to take action with the technical staff. Follow up and don’t lose focus on EnergyLess. #EnergyEfficiency #HeatIsland #OutdoorAirQuality #EnergyLess

The Flower Philosophy - I recently watched Jason F. McLennan’s TEDx talk, “Building Ecological Civilization,” and was amazed by his Flower Philosophy. In it, McLennan presents a powerful metaphor for sustainable architecture: just like a flower thrives by using only what’s naturally available—sunlight, water, and soil—our buildings should do the same. They should harmonize with their environment, giving back more than they take. His vision, embodied in the Living Building Challenge, pushes us to think beyond efficiency. It’s about creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also regenerative and self-sustaining, much like a flower. This approach challenges us to design buildings that contribute to a healthier, more resilient planet by mimicking the elegance and efficiency of nature. #Sustainability #Architecture #FlowerPhilosophy #LivingBuildingChallenge #GreenBuilding #Biophilia #RegenerativeDesign #TEDx #ClimateAction

Nowadays, protective heat glass stickers are more transparent and more efficient. There is no longer a need for dark stickers to protect glass properties from sunlight heat. #BuildingMaterials #SustainableDesign #Construction #Architecture #InteriorDesign #Efficiency

Hey there LinkedIn friends! Have you seen what's happening with the houses in Scotland? 🏴🏡 They're mixing super old-school stuff with cool new designs and it's like we're seeing history and the future all at once. Think about those ancient stone houses with thick walls you'd see in history books. Now imagine adding glass walls, solar panels, and stuff that makes your home super smart—without losing that old charm. It's like your grandpa's house got a high-tech makeover! 🤓 This is a great lesson for us. We don't always have to throw away the old to make room for the new. Sometimes, combining them makes something even more awesome. Wanna know more about how we can do this with buildings or anything else? I'm always sharing cool ideas and stories like this. 👉 Follow me here: - LinkedIn: https://buff.ly/3H8EsMw - Instagram: https://buff.ly/3TGRHf4 - Twitter: https://buff.ly/41IMwx7 Let's think outside the box together and keep building cool stuff! #Architecture #Innovation #ScottishDesign #SustainableLiving

Embracing Nature Through Sustainable Architecture Here my latest sustainable architecture concept design: a cultural hub that harmoniously integrates with nature. Nestled in a lush forest and surrounded by tranquil waterways, this project redefines the relationship between architecture and the environment. Key Design Highlights: Organic, flowing architecture: Inspired by natural forms, the white curvilinear roof blends seamlessly with the landscape, creating a striking yet subtle presence. Eco-focused integration: The structure works with the surrounding environment, preserving the forest and enhancing the beauty of its water features. Cultural connection: Designed to foster community and cultural exchange while maintaining a minimal ecological footprint. Sustainability at its core: Leveraging renewable materials, natural ventilation, and an energy-efficient design to respect and protect nature. Would you visit or work in a space like this? Let’s reimagine the future of architecture—together. #SustainableArchitecture #DesignForNature #EcoDesign #CulturalSpaces #GreenFuture #InnovationInArchitecture

It's important to control sun radiation and heat gain to make life more comfortable and reduce the need for air conditioning. One traditional method is using overhangs. Overhangs block high summer sun while still allowing a clear view. In winter, they let in low sunlight, which helps warm the house. #architecture #shadowanalysis

Spot the Density! Can you figure out the correct density order of the following buildings from highest to lowest density? Put your responses in the comments below. In Planning, the term ‘density’ is most often defined as the number of residential units per acre. For example, 100 units on 10 acres would be a density of 10 dwelling units/acre (abbreviated du/ac). But what does that mean and look like in our communities? The pictures below highlight different types of developments and densities throughout Columbus and show that density isn’t always what you might think. See these and hundreds more density examples from Columbus at the Columbus Development Database: https://lnkd.in/gKRX48Q5...
