11moIn my experience tiered grading doesn't prove to be meaningful in UME. Grade inflation is rampant, systems still often reward compliance over knowledge with grades, and many assessment processes have not been validated to demonstrate that they actually measure what they purport to. I don't personally have a problem with tiered grading. However, if everyone gets an A or whatever the highest score is, it's not a tiered grading system, it's just a poorly designed and communicated pass/fail system. If tiered grading is used it has to be meaningful and transparent.
