A day working as a mining engineer is usually filled with major projects and many hours spent on a mine site. But for some at our Mount Isa Mines operation, they also get to visit local schools to deliver books to students as part of our long-term sponsorship of Books in Homes Australia. Just like Nick, Manager Surface Engineering who recently enjoyed spending time at Sunset State School reading to children. Students from seven schools around north west Queensland, as far as Camooweal and Dajarra are part of the $106,000 per year Books in Homes sponsorship. Each student chooses nine books a year to keep and help foster a love of reading. We’re so proud to support childhood literacy. Since we’ve partnered with Books in Homes Australia, we’ve delivered over 200,000 books and invested more than $1.7 million in the program.

2moAfter reading to the class, I asked the students to come up and read to the class themselves. The confidence and ability displayed is a testament to the Books in Homes program and Sunset State School.
