How does the #miningindustry affect Minnesota students? The Minnesota Department of Education will distribute a record $48.9 million during the 2023-24 school year to the state's 329 public school districts and 181 academies and charter schools. The Permanent School Trust Fund is largely funded by School Trust Lands with the majority coming from rents and royalties on iron ore mining and taconite leases. Distributions have increased by more than 88% over the past ten years. These School Trust Lands also have nonferrous resources (copper, nickel, cobalt, etc.) that if mined, could greatly increase this financial contribution to help fund education for our next generation. Mineral Notifications: Supporting the Local Community At Inked Land Company, we support our #community by ensuring transparency in crucial development decisions. Our recent project with a local school district highlights this commitment. Project: Mineral Notifications for a School District We were tasked with notifying all mineral rights owners about the annexation of a property in Adams County, CO, into the City of Thornton. This notification, required by Colorado state statute, had to be completed 30 days before the hearing date. 🔍 The Challenge: Identify mineral ownership and prepare detailed notification letters, including the date, time, place, and nature of the annexation hearing. 💪 The Hurdles: With a tight deadline and complex title issues, our team overcame significant challenges. Without local expert title experience, the process would have taken at least a month and thousands of dollars. ⏱️ The Result: Inked completed the task in under 2 weeks! Our efficient work met the deadline, informed the community, and saved the client valuable time and money. It provides a roadmap for repurposing land, considering local ecosystems and the aspirations of #communities. In our latest paper led by Sandy Worden and co-authored by Claire Cote and Pascal Bolz - "Regional Post-Mining Land Use Assessment: An Interdisciplinary and Multi-Stakeholder Approach" - we present a new approach to determine what PMLUs a region is capable of sustaining. The approach provides a path for collaboration between different regional stakeholders by starting a conversation about what land use is suitable for the region and fostering a collaborative approach to the first stage of PMLU decision-making. 📖💡The #openaccess paper is based on research we undertook on four Queensland regions in Australia, funded by the Queensland Resources Council and ICMM.
