Well it was a disappointing announcement this week that the implementation of the New Aged Care Act will not be happening as planned and more than likely will not happen until July 2025. Providers that I’ve been speaking to report it as very frustrating as it is very hard to plan for a future model without certainty. however, my attitude throughout my career around uncertainty is to just continue doing the best that you possibly can at the moment and deal with the future when you know the facts. To this end, there is a lot that providers can do now to provide innovative models of care by embracing practices that are already expected under funding arrangements. These include wellness and reablement concepts. There is an excellent resource available -Government’s community of practice More Good Days I would highly recommend providers starting embracing these concepts seriously so that when the reforms come in to play hopefully in July 2025, they are prepared and ready. This Thursday I will be facilitating some training on how to provide short-term care with the focus of preparing service providers for short-term care and the importance of changing your model now. Support and investment in multidisciplinary allied health in aged care is essential to improving consumer health and wellbeing. Allied health practitioners are university educated, experienced professionals who prioritise each consumer's own needs, safety, and independence. The first annual #HWWBDay provides a new opportunity for collective action that everyone involved in the U.S. health system can get behind! Creating a #sustainable health system starts with a safe, fulfilled, and well health workforce. It is imperative for #healthcare and other leaders to implement evidence based solutions to improve the well-being of our healthcare workforce.
