ALL EYES UP! Space is our moral (and mortal) responsibility. Safe Passage is a solved problem set. It is a known known. Unfortunately, it is understood to only a select few, unclear to many, and unknown to most. Misunderstanding is causing missed opportunities. WE cannot afford a miscalculation. Space is every joint warfighter’s AOR. Beyond integrating space products, utilities, and services as key strategic advantages for national security, it is time to broadly institutionalize defensive and offensive space operations and effects as acknowledged traditional military activities for national defense. From Competition to Crisis to Conflict: WE must ensure delivery of Spacepower effects to the Joint Force, the Nation, and our Allies through Gray Zone asymmetries … WE must protect and defend Spacepower projection assets through Dynamic Space Operations … and WE must prevail over any Space-enabled attack against the Joint Force through resilient Tactically Responsive Space options. Set conditions, Secure the frontline, Shape the future. WE must always be able to Advance – Adapt – Augment for assured astro access and action. A skill-web will unweave their kill-web. This is how WE stratify the Stratosphere. https://lnkd.in/dHe2VDPf Counterspace Capabilities: Renewed Hope for Cooperative Governance? CIGI Paper No. 313 Almudena Azcárate Ortega Victoria Samson January 23, 2025 Ever since humankind first launched objects into space, counterspace capabilities (also known as “space weapons”) were developed to disrupt or destroy them. Now that space is increasingly being used for both civilian and military applications, space technologies have evolved to meet these needs, but regulations to protect space have lagged behind. This paper looks at how the international community is addressing the threats posed by these technologies through multilateral efforts and regulatory mechanisms to enhance space security.

How much does the US spend on Space Force? The United States Space Force (USSF), the first new military branch since 1947, was created to safeguard America’s interests in space amid evolving global threats. Established in 2019, Space Force’s mission includes protecting US military and economic assets in space and deterring aggression beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Since its inception, the Space Force’s budget has grown significantly. In 2020, $40 million was allocated to set up operations. By 2021, the funding had risen to $15.4 billion as the branch became fully operational. Fast forward to 2024, and the budget has nearly doubled to $26.3 billion, with a focus on research, development, and strengthening satellite defense systems. With nations like China and Russia identified as potential threats, the Space Force is rapidly developing resilient satellite constellations, networks, and data links to ensure the US remains a dominant force in space. #SpaceForce #DefenseSpending #SpaceSecurity #USMilitary #SpaceExploration #NationalSecurity

According to the vision, by leveraging Army, joint and coalition space capabilities, Army space professionals will lead the effort to increase understanding and integration of these capabilities into all Army operations and activities. Army space professionals will also employ service-unique assets to interdict, or disrupt, adversaries’ use of their space capabilities, ensuring Army forces gain and maintain the initiative to fight from positions of relative advantage in all domains. “Integrating joint and Army space capabilities into the operations process must become second nature to commanders at every echelon,” Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Randy A. George, said in the written statement. “We accomplish this by incorporating these capabilities into training, education, experiments and exercises.” The vision document calls for forward-stationed Army space organizations to “conduct continuous operational preparation of the environment during campaigning to help set conditions to defeat layered defenses and open contested theaters in crisis and conflict” and to “build partnerships with close, highly capable allies to increase interoperability.” It adds that “Positioning Army space operators in theater with cyber and special operations forces allows for convergence, amplifying lethality and contributing to deterrence.” The vision statement also explains, “Army Signal integrates satellite communication services from the Department of Defense and external agencies to establish the networks vital to multidomain operations” and that “Army intelligence leverages space-based assets to provide geospatial, signal, and all-source intelligence, enabling the Army and joint interdiction fires necessary for multidomain operations. #MavenScouts #NationalSecurity #REMI #Space #JointOperations #USArmy

LIVE LONG AND PROSPER ON THE BATTLEFIELD - A QUICK GUIDE TO SPACE AND THE EMS FOR WARFIGHTERS - [T]he utilization of space has exponentially progressed, and consequently upended the American way of war. - Warfare has drastically evolved since World War II when hundreds of bombers darkened the skies with thousands of bombs to attempt to destroy one target. The Allies could attack once-safe rear areas but inflicted significant collateral damage and at great cost in aircraft and crew. Advances during the Cold War helped both accuracy and mitigated risk, but weapons still lacked surgical precision. During the first Gulf War, nascent space-based effects like the Global Positioning System (GPS) led to greatly improved targeting. Today, GPS-guided munitions provide flexible and exacting fires. Capitalizing on the past three decades of uncontested space dominance, the United States created highly effective weapon systems. However, multiple nations, including Russia and China, contest space today. Considering the landscape, this article presents the military’s organization of the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) and space domain and the fundamentals of space and EMS operations. - The massive engagements in World War II have been replaced with precise and overwhelming fires exhibited in the Global War on Terror, coupled with exquisite intelligence and communication. Adversaries, however, have noticed space’s influence in recent conflicts, and have developed the means to manipulate the EMS to disrupt these capabilities. - The EMS is ubiquitous and interacts to a degree with nearly every military capability. Oversight of EMS operations is resident within combatant commands, under a Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Cell (JEMSOC) as the EMS coordinating authority (EMSCA). These cross-disciplinary, joint teams play a critical role as EMS operations involve signals exploitation, electromagnetic warfare, and spectrum management. EMS equities reside in commands’ J2 (signals intelligence), J3 (operations), and J6 (spectrum management) directorates. - Warfighters Must Know Space and EMS Basics Today’s warfighter must understand the importance of space and EMS on the contemporary battlefield. Future conflict will likely be conducted across all domains, and a basic understanding of these two arenas will aid national security professionals when they engage space and EMS subject matter experts on a joint or coalition staff. While this brief article is not comprehensive, we offer that it provides a starting point for professionals to continue their studies of space and EMS. Studying these two arenas can help joint warfighters “live long and prosper” on the battlefield. https://lnkd.in/dpA2wKkA

As reported by Theresa Hitchens this slide briefed by outgoing Secretary of the Air Force appears to show that the Space Force won't be a "mature" warfighting force till 2050!!?? This is totally ridiculous and can be moved up considerably if the next administration wants to and I hope they do. We have systems that can be repurposed in the near term while we work on weapons systems deployed in orbit. This includes both EW and ASATs that are ground based and even space to ground weapons. China has been engaging in, according to numerous public reports by DoD and ODNI, the most rapid buildup of warfighting space forces. This pretending we can kick the can down the road needs to stop! We either get a credible space deterrence and warfighting force ASAP, or we'll lose. It's that simple. Give the United States Space Force what they need to win!!
