We wanted to ascertain the differences in how they work assimilate with cos and iceberg lettuce in addition to radish. Growth periods will be 4 weeks for the radish and 8 weeks for the lettuce. I'm very happy to say that, Today i found an interesting organism called "Vorticella". It is ciliated protozoan called "Vorticella" has two motile organelles: 1. The oral cilia of the zooid and 2. The contractile spasmoneme in the stalk. The oral cilia beat periodically, generating a water flow that translates food particles toward the animal at speeds in the order of 0.1-1 mm/s. The spasmoneme contracts in a few milliseconds, coiling the stalk and moving the zooid at 15-90 mm/ S. Size: Usually about 30–40 μm in diameter when contracted and the stalk (3–4 μm in diameter and about 100 μm in length). We can see the activities of both organelles in this video! Interestingly, they achieve the contraction within a fraction of seconds. PS: This is a firsthand video and it's a real time recorded video.
