This Forbes piece by Derek Newton covers a recent national survey of employers on the value of college. There's a lot to digest here, but most interesting to me is the news that employers prefer a college degree plus badges or micro-credentials much more than micro-credential alone or degree alone. That's exactly what we're doing at Florida Gulf Coast University by approaching badges as a supplement to our degrees - the power of "and." Not only that, but the survey shows employers value micro-credentials in both technical job specific skills like software applications and broad transferable skills like critical thinking - again, exactly the way we're doing badges at FGCU. The whole report is worth a read, but this article does a nice job extracting the highlights. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/eJ--w7bf
