GAUGING INTEREST: I’m putting an idea out there to see if there is interest in the community. For several years I’ve been concerned over how polarized and toxically divided our culture has become. I think many of you feel the same way. I believe the only way to overcome this is to connect with each other and actually dialogue respectfully across our lines of disagreement. We are now 5 months out from what will almost certainly be a very divisive election; yet we are going to all have to live together regardless of the outcome. What I’m proposing is a structured time of respectful dialogue where viewpoints are shared in a safe environment. The goal will not be to change minds, but to understand one another. I’m volunteering to moderate such a series of discussions. I lean red/conservative, though I’m registered as an Independent. If someone, preferably female, who leans blue/progressive would like to co-moderate with me, that would be great. Let me know in the comments if that would interest you. In my view, perhaps the biggest problem is that we often tend to see those who disagree with us as naïve, misinformed, unintelligent, or even evil. In my hours of dialoguing across lines of disagreement, I am convinced that on most any issue, both sides have legit concerns. We may not be able to come to an agreement, but we can at least understand each other better, and hopefully view one another with less suspicion and disdain. Folks: while I'm drowning in communications about some of my most recent posts (sorry! I'll come back to those topics and requests and connections soon, I promise!), maybe I can change the topic for long enough to encourage folks in Western PA/OH/WV area to seriously consider donating to PublicSource. Kyle became the President and CEO of The Thanks-Giving Foundation because he wanted to do something important in the bigger civic context, and build something sustainable for the citizens of Dallas. The Thanks-Giving Foundation is a platform that can influence the future of the community, and he believes his contribution of time, effort and resources can make a real difference as an accelerant of positive change. The physical and programmatic enhancements made are being noticed, and he is proud that the vision will deliver a place of importance within the nonprofit landscape. Before joining The Thanks-Giving Foundation, Kyle was the Chairman, President and CEO of Carroll Company. Kyle received a Bachelor of Business Administrations degree in honors business and a Master of Business Administration degree in accounting and finance from the University of Texas at Austin, and went on to earn his CPA license.
