Global African Hydrogen Summit reposted this
🔔 The Global African Hydrogen Summit in #Windhoek, Namibia, was an enriching experience for our UNIDO delegation. It was a fantastic opportunity to present The Global Programme for Hydrogen in Industry and connect with national, regional, and international partners. Witnessing the high-level commitment from countries to develop hydrogen economies and foster cooperation was inspiring! 📆 UNIDO had the honour of contributing to several key panels: 1️⃣ Green #Industrialisation & #Decarbonisation: I was happy to join industry leaders to discuss how #greenhydrogen can drive #Africa's industrial growth and decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors like mining and steel. The panel addressed opportunities and challenges in leveraging #hydrogen to diversify economies and create sustainable jobs across the continent. 2️⃣ #Egypt Spotlight: It was my honour to participate in Egypt's special session, discussing the National #Strategy for Green Hydrogen, key hydrogen projects (including UNIDO’s initiatives in Egypt), and the potential impact on the #maritime industry. 3️⃣ #Climate #Technology & #Innovation: My colleague Sven Schuppener engaged with researchers, policymakers, and technology providers on the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in making #cleanhydrogen a scalable and integral part of the global energy landscape. Throughout the summit, we met with stakeholders from #Namibia, #Egypt, #Kenya, #SouthAfrica, the #EU, as well as International Organizations and associations, to discuss cooperation and the advancement of hydrogen initiatives. 🤝 We had the pleasure of connecting with delegations from: ✅ The Arab Republic of #Egypt (Hon. Minister of Energy, Mr. Mahmoud Esmat) ✅#EU Delegation #SouthAfrica ✅Republic of #SouthAfrica (Department of Science and Innovation) ✅Republic of #Kenya (Ministry of Energy) ✅#EU Commission, DG ENER ✅#Namibia #GreenHydrogen Programme (NGH2) ✅European Investment Fund (EIF) ✅Monasa Advisory & Associates and ITP Energise ✅Daures Green Hydrogen Village ✅#UNRC ✅UNDP ✅#MAERSK Moeller McKinney Centre for Zero Carbon Shipping ✅Women In Green Hydrogen ✨ Big thanks to the Summit organisers, the Government of Namibia, and the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme for their warm hospitality and strong partnership. At UNIDO, we remain committed to advancing Africa's clean hydrogen potential! 📷 On the photos: the South African delegation from the Department of Science and Innovation (with Hon. Dear Petra, it was likewise a great pleasure meeting you and Sven Schuppener. Thank you for taking the time to share insights on UNIDO’s work and for discussing our Namibia project with the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping.
It is nice to see progress of Hydrogen as an energy vector in the African region. Great work. Congratulations Petra
Well done Petra Schwager 👏
You are doing a splendid job, dear Petra!

1moThanks for your kind words dear Petra Schwager Indeed #UNIDO cooperation with #Egypt is strategic and a storytelling of successful support to the Egyptian electricity and renewable energy sector. Looking forward to seeing you soon again in Egypt. Don't miss the Cairo Sustainable Energy Week next October.
