In collaboration with British Toxicology Society (BTS) and toxicologists from industry and academia we have developed a vision for world-leading chemicals safety testing in the UK that embraces the latest scientific developments and 3Rs opportunities: https://lnkd.in/diDJng7B The vision aims to replace and reduce the use of animals in toxicity testing whilst maintaining the highest standard of protection for human health and the environment. It outlines the need for an updated approach to UK chemicals regulation alongside the scientific, business and societal benefits this offers. We have identified actions to optimise opportunities presented from exiting the EU to develop a world-leading regulatory framework that firmly embeds the 3Rs in chemical safety testing. This work follows on from a workshop we held with Unilever last year which brought together over 50 scientists from government departments responsible for implementing UK chemical safety policy, alongside representatives from industry and UK-based academic scientists to discuss the future direction of UK chemicals regulation. The workshop was a first step towards building a consensus across the UK science base for an approach that is science-led and forward-thinking. We aim to catalyse the commitment, investment and activity required to drive change, improve the science and predictivity of safety testing and ultimately reduce the current reliance on animal toxicity tests.

Check Chat - Good Laboratory Practice Compliance Monitoring The OECD Principles of Good Laboratory Practice establish the requirements for a quality assurance system implemented by test facilities that conduct non-clinical health and environmental safety testing of test items contained in pharmaceutical products, pesticide products, cosmetic products, veterinary drug products, food additives, feed additives, industrial chemicals, medical devices, and manufactured nanomaterials. In many economies around the world, it is a legal requirement that such studies, when submitted as part of the dossiers for the pre-market approval of such products, must have been conducted under Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). IANZ is recognised by OECD member countries, and some non-member countries for its GLP Compliance Monitoring Programme, which inspects facilities and audits studies for verification of GLP compliance. These inspections and audits occur under a legal mandate, and failure of the test facility to accommodate them, or to demonstrate compliance with GLP, can result in rejection of studies for registration or licensing purposes, or in some jurisdictions be deemed to be in breach of the law. There are currently 11 registrations with IANZ under the GLP programme, with 44 countries participating in OECD programme on the Mutual Acceptance of Data (MAD).
