On Risk.net all articles are currently open (don‘t know for how long). Lots and lots of interesting articles, among them the current state of internal models for market risk. The following quote is a nice summary: „Now we are being thrown back into the Stone Age“.

Interesting short read on large US banks' perception of the Principles for Climate-Related Financial Risk Management for Large Financial Institutions published in October 2023 and wider criticism. As potential challenges in relation to data availabilty and quality seem to be quite a big concern, maybe that would be a case for more regulation on climate- and wider ESG-related disclosures. It will be interesting to see, if more states will follow the lead of California on this matter. Certainly, there are the challenges with regard to modeling, relevant time series and validations. But: there has to be some point in time to start, right? What was new to me is that a concept of double materiality was introduced. Context and concept seem to differ from the European perspective, certainly a great development. #ESG #RiskManagement

Anti Financial Crime and ESG compliance expert - Head of Compliance Solutions DACH, Benelux, & CEE at Moody's
Back in 2022, the Wolfsberg Group of 13 major international banks released guidance regarding the relevance of #NegativeNews screening for efficient #RiskManagement. They highlighted the role negative news play in providing institutions with a more complete risk picture of the individuals and organizations they’re working with. Moody's’s #AdverseMedia whitepaper deals with the same issue, underscoring the importance of being able to cut through the noise and detect genuine risk-relevant signals before it’s too late. This can be best achieved by combining intelligent screening solutions – that help analyze vast data volumes, identify patterns, and reduce false positives – with human judgment and contextual awareness provided by experienced #Compliance professionals. If you’re struggling with adverse media screening, would like to enhance existing systems, or simply want to keep up with current risk management trends, make sure to check out the entire report below.
