As a humanitarian practitioner, I echo the importance of proactive networking and strategic engagement in competitive recruitment processes, especially within organizations like the UN. Your advice on getting involved, building connections, and presenting clear goals resonates deeply with my own experiences. Engaging in various activities, volunteering, and leveraging platforms like LinkedIn are crucial for visibility and credibility. Articulating aspirations and passion for humanitarian work is key in leaving a lasting impression. In conclusion; your insights provide invaluable guidance for aspiring professionals navigating the recruitment landscape in the humanitarian sector👏
How can I stand out in recruitment processes? Well, if I knew the full answer, I would be rich (or maybe in HR 😄). But I might have some ideas, based on things that have worked for me. So maybe I could share, hoping it can help some of you here looking to break through. After I shared my experience with the UNV programme, many people approached me asking questions about how to "get in". How to stand out and finally be chosen, considering the highly competitive processes for the UN and other humanitarian actors, and the maaaany unsuccessful applications. Here are three tips that I think helped me finally "make it". 🏃♀️Get involved: When I arrived in Brasilia, I was a fresh graduate from law school with no previous links and connections. I devoted all my free time to attending embassy functions, participating in university activities, and volunteering whenever possible. (The photo below was from the day I volunteered with UNDP for an SDG event, and the same day went to a GIZ event on water. Ikid you not, I really was everywhere...) 🤝Get known: Coming from the Brazilian countryside, I didn't know anyone. So I really had to get out of my shell and look for opportunities to engage and know people. Making connections with people who had the internships I wanted, who worked where I wanted to work, who did what I wanted to do... helped me better position myself and even reshape my applications. 🌟Get seen (for the right reasons): Make sure when you meet these new people that you have a clear goal, and that you aptly present it. People have their own agendas, so try to be clear and direct. Meaningfully engage. While I don't think there is a one-size-fits-all strategy, my approach was always to invest in visibility and building my network. This was mostly offline, but LinkedIn can really be a powerful tool to boost your processes and finally break through. For my connections already working in the system, what other tips can you share to help newcomers "breakthrough"? Please share in the comments so we can get the conversations started and maybe help more people to thrive. #HumanitariansAtWork #Recruitment

Recent student mobility trends in Africa can significantly impact UK international postgraduate recruitment – do you want to know how? In the dynamic landscape of international education, UK postgraduate recruiters are facing unique opportunities from Africa – particularly from South Africa, Egypt and Morocco. South Africa is witnessing a resurgence of interest in overseas education, especially among the younger demographic. Egypt’s pursuit of internationalisation through partnerships and foreign branch campuses presents new opportunities for UK PG recruiters. Morocco’s role as a regional education hub for North Africans – particularly students from Gabon, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea and Senegal – provides UK recruiters with an opportunity to appeal to students from these countries. Our recent issue of Postgrad Perspectives looks at these new student recruitment opportunities in greater detail and explores how to make the most of them. Discover more > https://lnkd.in/eAgfFY3Z

Experienced Immigration Advisor For Settling Abroad (One stop solution for all visas and Immigration services)
Just learned about it from my clients who secured 🇦🇺 Australian PR That it's common for Australian employers to seek candidates with local experience due to several reasons: 1. Familiarity with Work Environment: Having local experience often means understanding the local work culture, practices, and regulations. Employers may prefer candidates who can quickly adapt to their workplace environment. 2. Networking and Connections: Local experience may also indicate that a candidate has established professional networks and connections within the industry, which can be valuable for the employer. 3. Communication Skills: Being accustomed to local communication styles and nuances can be advantageous in effectively collaborating with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders. 4. Understanding of Industry Standards: Candidates with local experience may have a better understanding of industry-specific standards, compliance requirements, and best practices relevant to the Australian context. 🎯While it may seem challenging for new migrants to gain local experience, there are strategies they can employ: ➡️Volunteer Work: Participating in volunteer opportunities related to their field can help new migrants gain exposure to the local work environment and build relevant skills. ➡️Internships or Work Placements: Some industries offer internships or work placement programs designed for newcomers to gain practical experience and network with professionals. ➡️Networking Events: Attending industry-specific networking events, seminars, and workshops can provide opportunities to connect with professionals and learn about job openings. ➡️Professional Development Courses: Investing in further education or professional development courses tailored to the Australian market can enhance skills and demonstrate commitment to potential employers. Australian employers do like local experience but also love fresh ideas and skills from newcomers. So, new migrants should show off their international experience, ability to adapt, and eagerness to learn when applying for jobs. Let me know your thoughts
We specialise in equipping individuals and businesses with the technology and digital skills essential for navigating the digital landscape. We empower clients to enhance their competitiveness and operational efficiency.
Are we truly preparing our youth for the future job market? As we navigate the complexities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), it's crucial to reflect on the career choices being made by young people in South Africa. Are they choosing paths that align with market demands and can sustain them financially? The reality is that many traditional careers are becoming obsolete, while new opportunities are emerging at an unprecedented rate. This raises an important question: Are we doing enough to promote career awareness through workshops and roadshows? Engaging young minds in discussions about the evolving job landscape can empower them to make informed decisions. Moreover, we must consider the skills mismatch that exists in our country. Are educational institutions adapting to the needs of the modern workforce? By fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptability, we can better equip the next generation for success. Let’s spark a conversation. What do you think can be done to bridge the gap between education and employment in South Africa? I invite you to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below. #CareerAwareness #FutureOfWork #SkillsDevelopment #4IR #futurework

Colombian Lawyer with a LLM in Public International Law and a Master in European Union Studies and Human Rights Búsqueda activa- Open to work
Even though this has been gradually changing, it is still not enough, especially considering the great performance that nationals of "non-traditional countries" have been achieving in both the education and professional spheres. It is due time to eliminate all kinds of bias regarding nationality, whether conscious or unconscious, and finally start assessing professionals only for the value they bring to their workplaces. A first step could be eliminating concepts such as "developed/in development" "Global South" or, the worse of them all, "First, second and third World countries". In an increasingly multicultural world, and with the possibility of real-time connection from pretty much every corner of the planet, these are the first terms that further bias, privilege and discrimination.
Passport privilege in international affairs careers: --Access to International organization career entry programmes. For example, UN Junior Professional Officer programmes are usually sponsored by developed countries for their own nationals, and some developing countries. Citizens of middle-income countries typically do not have access to this major route into IOs. --Broader number of IOs that you can apply to, because your home country is a member. --Greater access to jobs in "feeder" organizations (major NGOs, for example) because you have work authorization (or can more easily obtain it) in countries where these organizations are located --Your nationality actively recruited because it is a major donor --Your CV perceived as less credible due to unconscious (or even conscious!) bias I'm sure that this is only a partial list...

NOTHING IS " IMPOSSIBLE" TO ACCOMPLISH ! Simply because, I can learn by listening and recalling whatever I hear, see and/or read IRRESPECTIVE of person, place, subject, trade or circumstances that I pass by or with!
Because, I think, it is not the US-President, US-government or US-Administration but Israel and the rich-talented-powerful Israelis / Jews living in The USA and/or elsewhere in the world who actually dominate the US-foreign policy and the CIA for having financial and technological supremacy and superiority to regulate the US-technology, Businesses, Economy, Politics/Elections and/or other sophisticated and sensitive sets-up and decision making persons and /or personalities to be dared to that extent to compel the any USA-government irrespective of Presidents or Parties in Power; Democrats or Republicans! ON THE BASIS OF PAST/PREVIOUS AND PRESENT role of the USA, If my observations and/or assumption be logical at least by 30%, then the US-Government shall have no option but to remain convinced AND be compelled to give priority-most to safeguard the interest of ISRAEL first and foremost above other ISSUES of foreign policy concerned deploying their bests to BACK Israel to win the battle or war at the costs of another world war! And for the same reason, other Countries or States like the UK, France, Germany, UAE, Canada and many others irrespective of nationality, region or religion are also helpless to keep supporting ISRAEL to come and remain in power!!! The intensity of the bad smell of the rotten eggs lying in their "sandwich diplomacy" ultimately held liable to be revealed and spread-ed in the air throughout the world tainting also the UNO for not to be a forum of true democracy at all because of Supremacy of the Security Council for VETO over the democratic General Assembly resolutions!

Iraq's young and ambitious youth needs #jobs. While most of the public budget is coming from oil exports, the oil sector cannot create enough job opportunities. To help the private sector grow and future #entrepreneurs to start their businesses, GIZ implements a variety of activities on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the #EuropeanUnion, for example: 🔸 Public-private dialogue formats: Businesses, chambers, policy makers, academia and other stakeholders come together to share perspectives to feed into effective policies 🔸 Start-up, scale-up and business development programs: Partners such as KAPITA Business Hub provide tailor-made support to (further) develop market relevant business models successfully 🔸 Job placements and internship programs: In close collaboration with the private sector, GIZ provides financial support during the first months of employment. Thus, job seekers can gain relevant job experience. After completing this initial period successfully, many companies offer a long-term job position. #TeamEurope #TAEUFIQ #decentwork

1. Visa Challenges for Event Attendance: Attending events requiring visas can be costly and time-consuming, especially for individuals residing outside capital cities. 2. Perceived Devaluation of Extended Studies: Despite completing study plans that are twice the length (and often depth), some individuals may still perceive these studies as "less". Brand over grit. 3. Recognition of Professional Career Abroad: Professional careers in certain countries may not be recognized unless working for senior positions in Ministries or very large international companies.
