The European Commission recently announced a 4 billion euro budget for the 2023 Innovation Fund, with a doubling of investment allocated to cleantech manufacturing projects in Europe, among other general decarbonisation funding too.   Given that industry accounts for approximately one quarter of global GHG emissions, these investments will enable the crucial scaling of innovation to work towards a green transition.   Recent Verdantix research has looked at four areas that innovation is supporting the circular economy in industry, to enable key climate and sustainability performance goals like decarbonisation efforts. https://lnkd.in/evUYBe3H

Hi, my LinkedIn family! I am happy to share that I have attended a webinar on an applied sustainability assessment case study walk-through organized by CL: AIRE and Remtech Europe. Here are some insights that I want to share. Applied Sustainability Assessment is a comprehensive approach to evaluating the social, environmental, and economic impacts of a particular policy, program, or project. It is a key tool in promoting sustainable development and is increasingly applied in various fields. The process of applied sustainability assessment involves several steps: Relevance Analysis: Determines whether or not the subject is relevant to sustainability. Scoping Analysis: Determines the scope, depth, procedures, and tools for the assessment. Impact Analysis: Assesses the economic, environmental, and social impacts in the short and long term. Comparative analysis identifies significant synergies, conflicts, and trade-offs. Associative Analysis: Suggestions for Mitigating Harmful Effects Political analysis identifies the least expensive option (economic, environmental, and social). This process employs numerous tools, including risk assessment, life-cycle assessment, benefit-cost analysis, ecosystem service valuation, integrated assessment models, sustainability impact assessment, and environmental justice tools. However, all of them will not necessitate the use of these tools. The goal of Applied Sustainability Assessment is to guide decision-making toward more sustainable outcomes by examining long-term flows, investments, and effects in equal measure, identifying synergies and trade-offs across domains, and respecting open and transparent processes. It also entails identifying long-term and intergenerational concerns using various methods. Interestingly, I have found the following differences between ASA and EIA: Applied Sustainability Assessment (ASA) and traditional Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) are both tools used to evaluate the potential impacts of a policy, program, or project. However, they differ in several key aspects. While both ASA and EIA are useful tools for assessing potential impacts, ASA takes a more comprehensive and proactive approach by considering a broader range of impacts and involving all stakeholders.
