There's often confusion between leadership and management. Many people see them as synonyms; to me they are completely different. Some managers are leaders as well, but most aren't. Here's the twist: some amazing leaders aren't managers at all. Their peers follow them – these are the "informal leaders" I mentioned in my book. A leader inspires others to be the best they can be. They show a path forward and do not need power to get stuff done. Managers use their position of power to make people do what they want. Both are able to achieve results; the leader builds a strong and resilient organisation where managers weaken companies. The best leaders CARE FOR PEOPLE & MANAGE PRODUCTS/TASKS. Effective and Impactful leaders must be HUMAN CAPITAL FOCUSED FIRST and all other things will fall into place. Too many leaders care about PRODUCTS/TASKS and try to MANAGE PEOPLE. #Dare2Lead #LeadLeaders

In the crisp -7 degree Iowa weather, I learned something about leadership while making frozen bubbles: success comes from trial and error, and embracing each unique journey. Each bubble's unique frosty pattern was a testament to the diverse paths to success. As leaders, it's best to encourage experimentation within our teams. We should set clear goals but allow flexibility in how to achieve them. This autonomy fosters creativity and ownership. Like frozen bubbles, the journey may be different, but the end result can still be beautiful. Here are two things that come to mind to foster this. 1. Equip your team with the necessary tools for effective experimentation - it could be something as simple as time or a project. 🛠️🔍 2. When things don't go as planned, openly share what was learned. Your transparency can transform individual experiences into collective wisdom, this includes leaders sharing as well. 🤝💡 What are your tips? #customersuccessmanagement #leadership

How To Decide Faster Every leader should design and communicate their decision-making process. Clearly defining what matters to them and what others should handle helps minimize confusion. This clarity prevents decision-making delays and frustrations within the team. To address this, creating a decision-making matrix that categorizes decisions by urgency and stakes can be helpful. This approach clarifies when the leader should be involved and when the team can proceed autonomously. Implementing such a model enhances clarity and efficiency, avoiding micromanagement and ensuring the right decisions are made at the right levels. Leaders must establish clear decision-making processes to foster empowerment, trust, and effective delegation. Source: MIT Sloan #productivity #innovation #creativity #leadership

Can we talk about org charts? I’m curious. Have you come across the distributed #leadership model as a means to run an #organization? Leaders, how do you feel about this kind of model? I recently shared some of my thoughts on a call with Brad Sytsma and Shannon Dew. It’s illustrated to be a network of shared power and responsibility in an org. Often there is no intuitive ranking, hierarchy, or Chain of Command. How then, do #leaders provide a clear and organized structure for decision-making, #communication, and #accountability? I’m curious to hear your thoughts.
