Did you know that abandoned underground #CoalMines in the European Union could release as much methane annually as the Nordstream pipeline explosion? According to our latest analysis, these mines are estimated to emit up to 298 million cubic meters (MCM) of #methane per year. Key Findings: 🇵🇱 Poland leads as the largest emitter of abandoned mine methane (AMM), with sixteen mines releasing 110 MCM annually—nearly 40% of the EU's total AMM. 🇨🇿 The Czech Republic follows closely with 90 MCM annually, and 🇩🇪 Germany ranks third with 55 MCM annually, highlighting significant emissions without mitigation measures. Explore more about the impact of abandoned coal mines on methane emissions and the urgent need for mitigation strategies in our latest briefing: https://lnkd.in/ewFS5CPz
