Founder & Host of Rooted and Routed Podcast | Empowering Expats with Real-Life Stories | Stories Shared for Expats by Expats
🤝 Connecting People, Building Community, Creating a Brighter Future 🌍 In a world where many of us focus on personal growth and success, few take the time to lift others along the way. Recently, I had the privilege of hosting someone who made me reflect on the power of giving back. Luc Mignon is one such visionary, and his inspiring work with Seema’s Project is a standout. This NGO rescues children of sex workers and provides them with a safe environment to heal, learn and grow. But Luc’s vision goes beyond providing basic needs—he believes that sharing skills and wisdom can shape the futures of these children. Whether you're a skilled expat (spouses who are not allowed to work) or local, connecting with these kids will not only bring unexpected joy but also personal growth. Volunteering in this act of kindness that teaches you lessons no book can offer. A few months ago, I had the opportunity to spend time with these children, and seeing their happiness was overwhelming. It’s an experience I hope many others will take part in—one of the most fulfilling and meaningful acts of giving back. Luc is a global citizen with experiences that span continents, and it was impossible to capture it all in one conversation. 👉 Ready to be inspired? Tune into Part 1 of Luc Mignon's extraordinary journey and learn how his global experiences, passion for music, and dedication to philanthropy are making a real difference. 🎧 https://lnkd.in/ewJcV-S5 #RootedAndRoutedPodcast #GivingBack #Philanthropy #CommunityBuilding #ExpatLife #PersonalGrowth Rooted and Routed Podcast https://lnkd.in/eU-Hh3tM

To honor the #Juneteenth Federal holiday, which commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States, I will be attending a book club hosted by Saira Rao and Regina Jackson through their organization Race2Dinner, which facilitates conversations between white women about white supremacy and racism. May today's holiday spur white men and women to take action and reflection on the topic of white supremacy and racism. Some ideas: - You can get more involved in Race2Dinners various programs (see below) - You can check out the services of PopWorks Africa, consultants defining decolonization, intersectionality, and anti-racism with iNGOs and philanthropic institutions. https://lnkd.in/eFueypCn - You can buy and follow one of my favorite black liberation authors Tricia Hersey and her beautiful book Rest is Resistance But I ask you to do one thing... whatever method you use, turn within yourself. Too often white people (myself included) donate, march and sign petitions and think we are doing our part. But dismantling racist systems begins within us - with our awareness, our actions and our courage to speak up. On today's Juneteenth, what is one thing you can do to start your journey? https://lnkd.in/evevX25t

In a recent conversation with Tunde on his podcast 'How I Crushed It' I spoke about my life, from infancy to present day. It was humbling retracing my steps down memory lane and seeing how far I have come. But also, how much further I would like to go. https://lnkd.in/esKUzMES One of the many obstacles that came along with being a parent of a child with exceptional needs was finding environments of learning which provided structure for him to thrive..... We became advocates of "School Choice", in order that more parents would understand they had options for their children. I will be extremely transparent when it comes to our journey. Politics where extremely heighten during this time....EXTREMELY and still are today. Blautism represents our experience as a Black family who was often ostracized for choosing alternatives to traditional public schools. Now mind you, we never criticized the schools, we just wanted the best fit for our children. Many of those critical actually looked like our own family... However, being the historian who was raised by amazing educators.... I simply provide facts and do not argue. Maria Collins noted in the African American community as an innovator in education.... prolific and game changing. Our Non-profit organization was created on the true mission of what equity in education to serve those who are our more vulnerable. Now ask me again why our Neuro-Divergent son could at the age of (3) recite all of the Presidents of the United States 🇺🇸 Washington to Obama. #EducationalChoices #blackneurodiversity #ALegacyOfChange #BlackAutistic #ActuallyAutistic #neurodiversity

Get your Goat Highlight! Leanne Bellegarde, from Treaty 4 territory in south Saskatchewan, spent her early years in the northern community of Meadow Lake. Interestingly, she didn't aspire to be a lawyer initially. As a young Indigenous woman, the absence of role models in the form of Indigenous women lawyers shaped her aspirations. With gratitude for numerous supporters, Leanne reflects on her journey. Her resilience has proven to be a rewarding force in achieving her goals!
