Digital sovereignty can seem like an abstract concept to governments - until it's brought to life. That's what we aimed to do in our panel "Digital Sovereignty in Times of Rapid Technological Change" at the World Economic Forum #AnnualMeeting 2025, co-hosted with our founding member Capgemini. The panel featured insightful contributions from H.E. Mohamed BinTaliah (Chief of Government Services of the #UAE), Marianne Janik (VP for Cloud at Google), Dr. Fabian Mehring (Minister at the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Digitales), Markus Richter (Federal CIO at the Bundesministerium des Innern und für Heimat), and Timo Graf von Koenigsmarck (EVP at Capgemini Invent), moderated by Manuel Kilian (MD at the Global Government Technology Centre). All panelist brought unique perspectives on how to navigate the space of digital sovereignty, followed by a lively debate with the audience. Thanks everyone for joining us!

Europe’s tech sovereignty is non-negotiable. This was a clear message from industry leaders during the #Connectivity25 event. We must ensure that our continent’s digital champions have the support needed to compete globally and control our own technological destiny, especially in these times of increasing geopolitical polarity. Last week, our founder and CEO Mattias Åström visited Brussels for meetings with policymakers and thought leaders to discuss the new EU priorities, and the future of cloud computing and digital transformation in Europe. Productive discussions were held on how the cloud industry can contribute to driving innovation, enhancing data security, and supporting the region’s digital economy. Mattias conveyed the importance of creating a regulatory environment that fosters innovation while ensuring privacy and security for European consumers and businesses. Catching up with hyperscalers will be a challenge but I believe there is a market for sovereign Tier2 offerings - many clients will need time anyhow to transform towards adoption of advanced cloud services. I hope that approaches like #evroc (and others) will have the power to reach a level that provides a great developer experience...
