This first Global State of GovTech Report means a lot to me: For the first time, we’ve quantified the global public impact of successful GovTech transformation. Because while GovTech can be seen as a software market or an investment opportunity, the ultimate "currency" we should use to measure its success is actually public impact—how it improves lives, improves services and builds trust in government. This perspective has been reinforced through discussions with international delegations over the past months. Thank you to everyone who visited the Global Government Technology Centre (GGTC) and contributed to these exchanges (Anandi Iyer, Thomas Østrup Møller, Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, Peppino Giarritta, Jamie A., Mohamed BinTaliah to name just a few). Co-written with colleagues from Capgemini and the World Economic Forum, the report demonstrates how GovTech has moved from a niche IT topic to a critical global priority. This is an important interim step, and I want to thank everyone involved—both individuals I had the honor to work with in the past (amongst others Michael Eßig, Kamila Gasinska, Gerhard Hammerschmid, Idoia Ortiz de Artiñano Goñi) and those currently working with us to shape the future of GovTech (Valeriya Ionan, Anna-Sophia Herkenhoff and further). Now all eyes are on the #AnnualMeeting in #Davos in two weeks where we will be present with all sorts of GovTech activities.

The technologies available to us today can do so much more than streamline public services. They have the potential to redefine how governments operate. And the potential to create public impact through GovTech amounts to $9.8 trillion globally in the coming decade, through gains in efficiency, transparency, and sustainability. These are the findings of new research published by The World Economic Forum and Global Government Technology Centre (GGTC) Berlin in collaboration with Capgemini.
