🎥 New Video Alert: Transforming Rwanda’s Eastern Province - The TREPA Project 🌱 Discover the transformative journey of Rwanda's Eastern Province and the lives touched by TREPA, a project supported by a $33.8 million investment from the Green Climate Fund. View here: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dsjV6P2m Spanning from 2021 to 2027, this initiative aims to restore 60,000 hectares of drought-affected landscapes across seven districts, enhancing the resilience of 75,000 smallholder farmers in Eastern Province. This region, vital for agriculture yet vulnerable to climate-induced drought, is witnessing a transformation towards climate-resilient ecosystems, ensuring food security and sustainable growth. By shifting to sustainable land management, the TREPA project envisions a future where degraded landscapes are restored, and communities thrive under the banner of resilience, poverty reduction, and food and water security. This endeavour is brought to life through the Government of Rwanda with the collaboration of the Rwanda Forestry Authority, CIFOR-ICRAF, Cordaid, World Vision, and Enabel, highlighting the power of partnership in addressing global climate challenges. As the discussions are ongoing at the #UNOceanDecade conference, the time is ideal to remind anyone that cares to listen of the potential risk #BBNJ poses to coastal states in Africa. Africa should no longer be part of Agreements that could undermine their sustainable development and food security of their peoples. The oceans is the renaissance of Africa’s development as such equity and justice should be at the core of any international agreement on oceans sustainability that the continent subscribes to. https://lnkd.in/erQy6NFt

𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐲: 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 🌱 On this World Environment Day, AgriCord is proud to highlight a project that demonstrates the alliance‘s commitment to land restoration and #resilience-building. 📌 In Tanzania, the members of TTGAU fight the degradation of valuable wetlands along streams and rivers. Prolonged dry spells have compelled farmers to restore and cultivate the wetlands to ensure consistent harvests. With support of the agri-agency Food and Forest Development Finland (FFD), TTGAU created a long-term adaptation plan which includes the planting of native trees which will help against degradation and offer a diversified income. The 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐭 supported the producers in the planning process. 🌾 But it’s not easy, there are challenges: maintaining productivity without further degrading the area, as well as high market demands and difficult middlemen. But the partners are positive to overcome the challenges and know how to get here: by working with the right private partners and aiming for reliable quality standards such as FSC certification. ☘ FFD supports TTGAU in their journey to make their members more resilient to #environmental changes. The project is part of #FO4ACP which is financed by the European Commission, the Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), and administered by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has approved a $100 million allocation for climate-resilient agriculture in Somalia during its 40th Board Meeting in Songdo, South Korea. The initiative represents one of the fastest single-country project approvals in the Fund's history. The seven-year project, named "𝚄𝚐𝚋𝚊𝚊𝚍" (meaning "hope" in Somali), will support over two million people in implementing sustainable farming practices, improving food security, and enhancing water management systems. This marks the largest GCF climate investment led by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Somalia. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, Somalia's Minister of Environment and Climate Change, emphasized the project's critical importance for national survival, as the country faces increasing challenges from extreme weather events, including droughts and floods that threaten food security. The initiative aims to transform Somalia's agricultural sector by introducing climate-adaptive infrastructure and farming techniques. This funding is part of FAO's broader portfolio of GCF-supported projects, which now exceeds $1.3 billion globally. #ClimateResilience #AgricultureInnovation #FoodSecurity #ClimateFinance #SomaliaAgriculture
