As we bid farewell to a remarkable year, Sri Ramachandra Innovation Incubation Centre is elated to share our accomplishments. In the heart of innovation, we have incubated 17 startups and nurtured 24 preincubates, fostering an ecosystem of groundbreaking ideas. The synergy of academia and entrepreneurship is evident in the success of 3 student/faculty-led startups, born from 7 faculty development programs and 15 student sensitization initiatives. Our commitment to knowledge dissemination is showcased through 32 seminars, 3 hands-on training workshops, and 8 flagship events. Collaborating seamlessly with various faculties, we co-hosted 7 events. Notably, our outreach efforts spanned 26 events, fostering connections at 16 incubation centers, leading to 15 memorandum of understanding signings with esteemed institutions, investors, and banks. In the financial realm, we facilitated connections with 16 investors, and we are indeed proud of an impressive ₹4.5 Crores in funds secured by our 18 startups and innovators. We also have a filed patent and 3 products in the pipeline undergoing clinical trials. Beyond numbers, we are thrilled to have contributed to the job market, generating over 70 employment opportunities through our startup network. NSRCEL Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and the Centre for Research on Start-ups and Risk Financing (CREST), DoMS, IIT Madras Indian Institute of Technology, Madras have released a comprehensive report on the "Startup Incubation Ecosystem", led by Prof. Srivardhini K. Jha and Prof. Thillai Rajan. The study highlights the crucial role of incubators in India’s entrepreneurial landscape. With over 1,100 incubators nationwide, the Southern region accounts for 45%, with Bengaluru and Chennai as key hubs. Despite this, India has fewer incubators per million people than the US and China, indicating room for growth. Currently, only 8.2% of startups utilize incubation, primarily in deep-tech sectors like AI/ML and biotech. The report emphasizes the strong correlation between incubators and startup success, noting that incubated startups secure funding faster, win more awards, and generate more intellectual property. These startups have a higher survival rate, contributing an annual revenue of ₹1,590 crore for every 100 incubated ventures. The Grand Pitch Season 3 | Innovation Council | Part 2/2 The third edition of The Grand Pitch, organized by the Innovation Council, SIBM Pune, stood as a testament to the institute’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial talent. This flagship event provided a dynamic platform for startups to present their innovative solutions and gain crucial investor support. This year’s event set new records, raising a total of ₹22.5 crores across various sectors, including Agritech, Health Tech, Drone Manufacturing, and Fintech. Standout investments included ₹2 crores for WholeLeaf, ₹16 crores for Shubhag HealthTech, ₹2 crores for NIKOL EV CHARGING STATION, ₹75 lakhs for Happy Karma and ₹1.75 crores for BioVeda Agro Ventures Pvt Ltd which achieved a milestone as the first startup in the event’s history to receive funding from six investors in a single round. For the first time in the history of The Grand Pitch, six investors came together to back a single startup, BioVeda, marking a significant milestone in the event’s evolution and showcasing the collaborative potential of investment in innovation. Building bridges for a stronger entrepreneurial ecosystem It is not often that Incubators and Accelerators come together and share their learnings and experiences of working in the Entrepreneurship ecosystem. One of those rare and invaluable opportunities presented itself last week, when I had the privilege of attending and representing NSRCEL, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore at the Incubators Conclave organized by NaaViC Agri-Business Incubation Centre ICAR-NIVEDI, held at the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy KSTA, along with my colleagues Chitvan Chamadia and Shriyam Yagnik. This event brought together representatives from 25+ incubators, providing an exceptional platform for exchanging insights and fostering collaboration. Listening to S Devarajan share his experience of the evolution of innovation in the Manufacturing and Automobile sector in India over the last 40 years shed light on the growth of innovation and intrapreneurship in the country and the role TVS Motor Company and BCIC Karnataka are playing to support innovation across India. 💡Here are three key learnings from the conclave: Innovative Strategies: The conclave highlighted diverse, approaches incubators use to overcome obstacles and stimulate entrepreneurship across thematic areas and sectors, showcasing a strong commitment to economic growth and nurturing entrepreneurial ecosystems. Community Building: Sharing experiences with peers underscored the importance of strong networks and continuous learning, essential for sustaining long-term success in the incubator community. Collaborative Problem-Solving: The collective brainstorming on regional challenges and conviction towards various co-incubation models reinforced the power of collaboration, highlighting the potential of a united incubator community. The conclave was an extraordinary opportunity to network with the wider ecosystem, delve into the best practices that different incubators follow, and discuss the unique challenges we encounter in our respective regions. The collective wisdom and collaborative spirit present were truly inspiring.
