Today, we celebrate the extraordinary journey of Eileen Collins, a true pioneer in space. On this historic day in 1995, Eileen made history by becoming the first female Space Shuttle pilot. 🚀 The Early Years of Excellence: Eileen Marie Collins, born on November 19, 1956, in Elmira, New York, displayed an early passion for aviation. Graduating from Corning Community College with an associate degree in mathematics and science, she went on to earn a bachelor's degree in mathematics and economics from Syracuse University. Eileen's academic prowess laid the foundation for her stellar career in the skies. 💫 The Trailblazing Ascent: Eileen joined the United States Air Force in 1978 and became a pilot, swiftly climbing the ranks. Her commitment to excellence led her to attend the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School, where she graduated as the first female test pilot. This was just the beginning of her trailblazing journey. 🪐 A Stellar Career with NASA: Selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in 1990, Eileen Collins demonstrated not only exceptional piloting skills but also a deep commitment to advancing space exploration. In 1995, she became the first female Space Shuttle pilot on the STS-63 mission aboard the Discovery spacecraft. 🌌 The Commander of Dreams: Eileen's groundbreaking achievements didn't stop there. In 1999, she made history once again, this time as the first female Space Shuttle commander on the STS-93 mission. Her stellar leadership skills and dedication to her craft solidified her as a symbol of inspiration for aspiring astronauts worldwide. https://lnkd.in/ee4wCzDC

Deep Tech for Human Health & Performance ◆ Open Strategy-Execution ◆ Demand-Side Innovation ◆ Translational Research
This meta-scientific #knowledgetransfer from #NASA is "one small step" for a #commercialspace industry. As so often in our preeminent collaboration between the #publicsector and #privatesector, this new initiative can build on the model provided by the #entrepreneurialstate, again, without the pain of creating something from scratch. It also is "one giant leap" for private sector innovators who seek to adapt such models even more broadly in a #science of #primarycare that can guide entrepreneurial development of new-to-the-world #businessmodels for primary care that utilize NASA's aspirational risk-informed decision making.
HRP-C™ announces the official formation of the Human Research Program for #CivilianSpaceflight. This initiative represents a significant milestone in human space research, dedicated to advancing the health, safety, and performance of civilians embarking on #spacemissions.

The Collins Aerospace spacesuit will not only allow more people to participate in a spacewalk, it will also contribute to driving down the spaceflight costs. The combination of a lighter suit with fewer parts will result in about 30% less hardware being launched into space. Additionally the suit will require less storage space, less training, less fatigue, and will increase ease of access within airlocks and vehicle structures - leading to an increase in overall astronaut comfort. #Space #Spacesuit #Technology #AdvancedTechnology #Engineering #EngineeringInnovation #Teamwork #TechnologyUpgrades

Co-founder, CEO & Chief Vision Officer, at Origami Group, Business Development, Management Engineering, Public Speaker, Mentor, Author
This morning, I immersed myself in the world of Shuttle flights and NASA programs, sparking a nostalgic trip down memory lane. In the 70s and 80s, like many of my peers, I harbored dreams of venturing into space as an engineer. While I've outgrown the prospect of a personal journey to the stars, I've discovered that my efforts in supporting various companies and enterprises align harmoniously with that youthful dream. Today, with Origami Engineering, my company, I find profound meaning in contributing my energy and expertise to propel these endeavors forward. Each endeavor feels like a step closer to fulfilling the timeless dream of sending humanity into the cosmos. 🚀✨ #SpaceDreams #OrigamiEngineering #Nostalgia #wisebusiness #businessdevelopment

Industry Strategy Leader @ Siemens, Aerospace Executive, Engineering and Program Leadership | Driving Growth with Digital Solutions
This week is World Space Week - an international celebration of science and technology - and it seems like an appropriate opportunity to reflect back on my time in the Aerospace and Defense industry on this Throwback Thursday. In my favorite episode of “Talking Aerospace Today”, Tom Vice, the CEO of Sierra Space, and I did a deep dive into the latest innovations, challenges and triumphs in aerospace, and provided a glimpse into the exciting future of space exploration. Sierra Space’s mission to make space widely accessible combined with Siemens’ commitment to advancing aerospace technologies is truly a testament to the power of collaboration in this field. During the Paris Air Show this summer, we had a chance to show the incredible progress that has already been made toward achieving this lofty goal. As we celebrate this week, let's take a moment to appreciate the world of aerospace, where boundaries are meant to be pushed and where the human spirit of exploration knows no limits. #worldspaceweek2023 #spaceandentrepreneurship #digitaltransformation #tbt
