As great as it can be to work from home, it can also be isolating, and you may lose what, in my opinion, is one of the best perks of work - the human relationships and friendships you get to establish. With that in mind, although the virtual world will never replace an in-person experience, if done right, it can closely resemble it. I know this one does… #teambuilding #virtualevents #wineevents #socialevents

As everyone else is winding down for the Christmas break, in hospitality, we're still going full steam, and gearing up for the busiest time of the year. But at Hetty & Betty, we're a bit different. This year, as with other years, we will again close on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, NYE, and New Years Day. This may seem an unusual business decision for a hospitality business but this is why: 👉 Staff Team - Our staff are our most valuable asset, and so to make sure they get time with their families, we close on the days they most want off. With everyone around you at home and at work, having fun and enjoying the season whilst you are working, it's hard to keep festive. Especially as hospitality staff are often the most undervalued by the public, and the public can be at their most demanding throughout the holiday season. After years of working as a chain hotel manager, working every day of the Festive Season, I get it, and I want to do it differently. We ensure our staff team's family/work/life balance is always considered. Hospitality is suffering from staffing issues across the industry, but we have retained our staff team, and this is one reason why. 👉 Creating demand - Our customers know that if they want to visit us, they will only have the days between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve to do it. So with a well rested, happy team, we can generate a good income from the festive season, without having to work on the holiday days. 👉 Customer Experience - We know that a happy team creates happy customers. We could stay open every day throughout the festive season, but what would the customer experience be like? With a team that's lost its festive cheer, rushing around to meet demand, would the customer really enjoy the experience? Or would the experience be better with a well rested team, who are enjoying the festive season along with everyone else? 👉 We know our market - We are based in Whitby, on the North Yorkshire Coast, and the in-between bit of Christmas and New Year - the festive limbo, when you never quite know what day it is - is a popular time to visit the coast. It's the perfect time to fill your lungs breathing in the fresh sea air, and fill tummies with something other than turkey! Five days of closing, means we will go into 2024 with a happy team, happy customers who will visit us again throughout the year, and give a us boost to start 2024. We think that's a price worth paying! To reserve a table over the festive limbo, you can contact on the website here: https://lnkd.in/em7qgSV4 #whitby #yorkshire #alternativetoturkey #festivelimbo #limbo

We support Asian internationalization or M&A projects in the organizational improvement of their new Central-European locations | Achieving stunning results with workshops, and coachings
Happy meeting of Japanese and Germans in Berlin! I have had the honor to participate in this great #OpenMonday event hosted by Japanese-German Center Berlin | JDZB. The video shows nicely the highlights of this evening, which was perfectly organized by the JDZB team. It was great to experience the importance of intercultural communication, focusing on something other than business. ➡ Fantastic photos of World Heritage sites in Japan were exhibited and will be there for some more weeks. ➡ The Japanese movie nicely explained the extended importance of food, not just to fill your stomach, but to see it as a gift and bond your relationships. ➡ The open talk about Japanese food and its secrets was also an eye-opening event, even for those participants who are already profoundly acquainted with Japan. My primary takeaway: It is always a fantastic experience to participate in events that are off business. It's so relaxed, and this helps to understand different cultures even better. What was your last intercultural experience? #interculturalcompetence #interculturalcommunication Dr. Julia Münch
Many thanks to the more than 250 guests and participants at yesterday’s #OpenMonday - this time with a special focus on “food”. #JapaneseGermanExchange #AfterWork #GetToKnowJDZB

Executive Coach | Team + Strategy Development Facilitator | Working with Senior Leaders and their teams to navigate and maximise the inflection point in their business.
If you’ve read my recent newsletter, you’ll know I’m loving reading Restaurant GM Will Guidara’s book Unreasonable Hospitality. Stay tuned for lots of insights! Guidara talks about the pursuit of that fourth Michelin star being so all encompassing that at one point he realised their ambition had gotten the better of them. At his own inflection point, he likened it to being like the cartoon Coyote so focused on catching the Road Runner that he’d run right of the cliff without realising it. “We’d been so focussed on managing the guest experience we’d forgotten to manage our culture. We’d lost our balance and needed to get it back”. This is of course, one of the challenges with being focussed and ambitious in the achievement of your next goal. When you look to make the big changes in your business it takes your very all. Ensuring you truly have your eye on the whole business, the impact the changes you’re making are having on your people and your customers takes conscious attention. It’s almost impossible to do if you are running hard. Don’t wait for people and things to fall apart to make you stop. Take this post as a sign to stop, get up on the balcony and ask what is working well and what needs attention right now? What are the unintended consequences of our current approach and are we comfortable with that? What are we missing? What needs to shift? #teamunlocker #leaderunlocker #inflectionnavigator
