For bundled ELICOS courses, the requisite score is now set at 5.0, previously standing at 4.5. Students enrolled in recognized university foundation/pathway programs are obligated to achieve an IELTS score of 5.5. Kindly refer to the Department’s website for a comprehensive list of endorsed courses. No alterations have been made for students exclusively undertaking ELICOS programs. Regarding Temporary Graduate Visas (TGV): The stipulated IELTS score requirement has been augmented to 6.5, with a prerequisite of achieving at least 5.5 in each test component. For holders of Hong Kong and BNO passports, the requirement remains unchanged at IELTS 6.0, with a minimum score of 5.0 in each component. The validity period for test scores utilized in TGV applications has been condensed to one year.

Australia's New Visa Policies Aim to Deter International Students The Australian government is implementing measures to discourage international students from choosing Australia for their education. The recent increase in visa application fees, now at AUD 1,600, is more than double the previous amount. According to The Economic Times, fees for student visas have risen from AUD 710 to AUD 1,600 (USD 1,068). This move, effective immediately, aims to curb migration, which is putting pressure on the housing market. Additionally, visitor visa holders and students with temporary visas will not be allowed to apply for student visas while in the country. In 2022-23, the number of international students in Australia increased by 30%. To prevent students from extending their stay, the government plans to address loopholes in visa rules through such changes. Compared to the US and Canada, where student visa fees are USD 185 and USD 110, respectively, this fee hike makes Australia a more expensive option for prospective students.
