We feel you Grogu! 😬 We cannot understand why some productions will make the choice of going for library music. 🤯 After all, there is so much effort and investment put into the different elements to bring a film or series to life that it makes no sense to let go when it comes to music when we know all the benefits that good, custom music can bring to a story? 🤨 So, for those who missed it, here is a macro list of the reasons why custom music is better than library music: 🎸 Custom music can be created to fit the mood, tone, and themes of the film or TV series perfectly, and can also create a memorable and unique sound identity that can better engage and connect emotionally with audiences while enhancing the overall viewing experience. 🎸 Creating original, tailor made music for a production allows for a strong and close collaboration between the film and series creators with the composers resulting in a cohesive and integrated soundtrack that brings the visuals and storytelling elements together. 🎸 Original music is not only tailor composed to each scene, cues, and transitions but can also be adjusted throughout the production process effectively in ways library music cannot. In essence, original tailor made music allows for much more artistic control, creativity, and flexibility, resulting in the creation of a unique and memorable soundtrack specifically designed for the particular story 💥 At Global, we take you on a creative, immersive and collaborative journey to craft exceptional, tailor made music to elevate the sound of your story and help you inspire your audiences. 🎵 🎥 Get in touch with us to find out more! 🙌🏼 #musicproduction #musiccomposition #musicfortv #musicforfilm

5 questions to ask when choosing the music for your game, ad, or video: 1. What do you want the audience to feel? 😀😭😠 A lack of emotional clarity will undermine your project. Ask this question, discuss it thoroughly, and consult an emotion wheel if needed. 2. Is the music a character or a stage? 🕺🌆 The music from interstellar is a character in the movie. The music in Marvel movies is more of a stage for the story to be told on. If the music is a character, is it a main character or a supporting actor? If it's a stage, what function does it play to build the world? 3. Is the music emotionally dynamic or static? 📈🎢 Some projects (like ads) have a single emotion throughout, with no increase or decrease in intensity. Some need to be able to pivot rapidly between emotions. This can influence what genre is selected. For example: orchestral music can be quite agile, where EDM tends to be more rhythmic and rigid. 4. Whose perspective is the music representing?🔍🔬🔭 Is the music meant to reflect the audiences perspective? The protagonist? The antagonist? All of the above? 5. What genre or combination of genres would best serve the story? 🎼🎧🎻 While choosing the music genre, you can either align with audience expectations, or subvert them. A medieval game could be served with traditional instruments, or it could be an amazing place for heavy metal. Combining genres can bolster strong brand positioning, and create something fresh. 🌟Follow for more insights on music, sound effects, and voice over🌟 #music #gamedevelopment #sounddesign

Storyteller | Award-Winning Senior Video Editor & Producer | Currently Podcast Video & Audio Editor @ The Asprey Group | Formerly @ The Liquid Light / Ads of Fire / The Creative District / Cultivator Labs
Every editor can relate to this! It’s not an easy fix to simply ‘swap the music’ out for another track. I know I tailor my whole edit to the tempo and rhythm section of the music that I choose. This is why I’ve learned to be so maticulous about my music choices. After placing a rough outline of my story together I make a short list of what type of music the audience would expect to hear for a piece like this or this section of the story. What’s the mood/tone? Where will the video will be posted? Is it an ad, or for social? Who’s our target audience? What does the client think? Each of these considerations can help you find the right music. List them out. Now, what genre or instrument or tempo would help satisfy this list? Then, spend the time to search for music cues that fit the criteria you’ve listed. Depending on the client, it may save you some time to share a handful of tracks you're considering with them first, before you even start cutting. These steps may not save you from having to swap things out today, but adding this practice to your work will eventually get you to the point where the issue comes up less and less frequently. I’ve gotten to the point where my music choices are rarely up for debate. It’s not because I’m so great; it’s because I’ve put the time and process in to look at the whole cut from the audience’s point of view and toggled through more music cues than I’d care to admit. Try it out & let me know how it goes. Now get back to work! #videoediting #videoeditor #music

Noticing a pattern with artists now a days who consulted me with their music release planning! 1. Takes my release plan and strategy 2. Tells me oh you don’t know the maket you are not that experienced 3. Releases music with you any strategy 4. Complains I am such a big artist why my music not reaching to millions 5. Pays way too much money for social media marketing and ads 6. Realises they had a strategy for release 7. Adopts the strategy without giving me any credits (forget about the pays) for their next release 8. The strategy works (partially because it’s a different sound now) and gets them the right listeners 9. Claims that it’s their hard work 10. Forgets about asking me for post release strategy 11. The song tanks down from charts within a week, because I never gave them after release strategy because they never paid for anything even in credits! Moral of the story, if you hire a consultant, wait and work with them before calling in your “industry experts” from major labels who genuinely only have hold over market because of their brand name and money, they can’t help an indie artist with the same mindset!

Music selection matters more than you think. It could turn into an endless round of revisions if not done right. Here's a foolproof technique I've used in the past for building emotion using music into my work: I use #harmonicmixing to make better music choices. Borrowed from #DJ culture, harmonic mixing leverages the Camelot Wheel to match tracks by key, ensuring that transitions are smooth and emotionally cohesive. This means each music change feels intentional, never jarring. When I move from one scene to another, I can ensure that the soundtrack supports the narrative flow, even when the tone shifts. For example, (see Camelot Wheel 👇🏽) if I’m using a track in 8A (A minor) and the next scene requires a shift, I’ll choose music in 9A (E minor) to keep the emotional journey consistent. By matching keys, I eliminate the awkward moments where a scene feels off because the music shift was too abrupt. The result? My edits are more polished, professional, and emotionally engaging. It’s a foolproof method. Try it out. What other ways do you use to figure out music choices? Post a comment. YouTube just introduced 'Remix'. Every music video just became interactive. How? Friday, YouTube announced new features that let you tap music videos for Shorts. The pitch is interactivity with official artist content. "Connect & get creative with your favorite artists & their music on YouTube." Here's how it works.. Tap 'Remix' on a music video to bring up 4 options: 𝟭) 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱: Use the audio 𝟮) 𝗖𝘂𝘁: Use a 5-second clip 𝟯) 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻: Hello reaction videos 𝟰) 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯: Create alongside it (like TikTok duet) Boom. Music videos are now interactive. Songs will have a list of all related videos - not only from original creators - but remixes & secondary uses. Get used to this. The future is interactivity. The future is co-creation. --- I'll go deeper in this week's Where Music's Going: https://lnkd.in/ehKn3Z38 PS: Artists & labels can opt-out.
